We visited Tweetsie Railroad in September and we had such a great time! It is a fantastic place for smaller children. They have a railroad and an open train where you get to view beautiful scenery and help defend the train against bad guys and Indian attacks! Be sure to buy your little one a pop gun for this!
They also have a sky lift to get up to the top of the Mountain where they have rides for the children, a petting zoo, a play area, live shows and restrooms! They also have a few rides for the older children. It is a really fun place. If you'd like to know more about it, see the "Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC" link above!
We also visited Grandfather Mountain the day after Thanksgiving this year and it was the most spectacular site I'd ever seen! It will absolutely take your breath away! The main attraction (for us) was the mile high swinging bridge. It is an actual suspension bridge between two peaks! My husband was terrified, but it was exhilarating!
There is also a lovely picnic area, an animal habitat(the closest I've ever been to Bald Eagles) and a nice museum as well. If you are in the area, you do not want to miss it! Be sure to bring your camera! For more information, visit the link above.
We recently returned from our spring vacation from here! Our 2 1/2 year old son is nuts over trains, so we thought this would be perfect...and we were right! You can choose many different destinations and train cars to fit your families needs/wants. We chose the open car on the steam engine!
This trip was from Bryson City, NC to Nantahala Gorge and we rode by a rushing river, complete with water falls and rafters the whole way! When we got there, we picnicked by the river and Ty threw rocks in the water and got his toes wet while we waited on the food! Next time we'll bring a picnic of our own, but the food they had was really good! If you have someone crazy about trains in your family, definately make a trip over to ride this scenic and wonderful railroad! See the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad Link for more information!
Over Memorial Day we drove to Gatlinburg and had a really good time. It's very tourist-y but beautiful. The view to and from here is fantastic and the shopping is pretty good, too. Go to the link above for all you can do there! We like to ride the ski lifts, visit the hokey museums and buy all of the homemade fudge we can stand!
