News for the Week of September 8-15
The MTV Video Music Awards are this Thursday, September 9. Backstreet Boys are nominated for four awards, including Video of the Year and Viewer's Choice Award. Click Here to cast your vote! The guys will also be performing live at the show. Airtime is 8 p.m. EST.
'Larger Than Life' is scheduled to premiere next week on TRL followed by official radio release in two weeks. Jive Records has not yet decided whether or not to market the single in stores.
The Boys are resting up and rehearsing for the US tour which begins on September 14 in Miami. However, fans were surprised this week when Nick made a surprise appearance with his brother Aaron onstage during Aaron's mini-tour through Canada!
"I Want it That Way" was the #1 video on MTV's TRL End of Summer Countdown. The video not only received the most requests this summer, but it has also received the most requests of any video for the entire year! It was one of only three videos to hit #1 this summer, holding the spot for 19 consecutive days and 41 days total!
Tickets for the Millennium tour, as you know, went on sale Saturday morning, August 14. They sold out all 53 shows across the U.S. and Canada in less than one hour! An estimated 765,000 tickets were sold and the total gross was 30 million dollars! The Sears "Back To School" commercials with the Backstreet Boys began airing late last week. Several more should begin airing in the 1-2 weeks. Sears, the tour sponsor, is giving away tickets to te Tampa show as well as a shopping spree with your favorite group member! Be sure to drop by Sears, because that's the only way you can enter the contest!
Howie's Birthday is coming up on August 22!!! Happy 26th b-day!
'I Want It That Way' was retired from TRL Thursday, August 5th. It spent 19 consecutive days at #1, but was unfortunately bumped from the top spot twice by Limp Bizkit before they were able to break the record set by *N Sync.
Be sure to check out the MTV Music Video Awards on September 9th. Backstreet Boys are scheduled to perform and are nominated for best video for 'I Want It That Way'.
The video for 'Larger Than Life' will be filmed sometime this month while the group is between tour dates. It will have an elaborate dance number similar to the 'Everybody' video.
