The Klondike 9 Cycling Adventure

These pages document the Yukon Bike trip of a group to be known as The Klondike 9. The trip started August 8, 1998 and ended August 16.

The trip started and ended in Whitehorse Yukon. On Saturday August 8, most of us arrived in Whitehorse. The picture on the left shows the whole town. It is the capital city of the Yukon Territory.

Jerry Brown arrived a day early, and had rented the van. We stayed overnight in Whitehorse. Some of the photos, like this one taken as we arrived, are his.

The Klondike 9 team members were:
    • Jerry Brown
    • Eugene Cadenasso
    • Dennis Devine
    • Gary Goldstein
    • Mike Heavey
    • Tom Link
    • Marc Marine
    • Tom Proietti
    • Rick Schlehofer
Just wanted to give everyone an idea of where we were. The Yukon map below has Haines Junction just over the 'o' in Yukon.
The cycling part of the trip took place on the Haines Highway. This runs from Haines, Alaska, to Haines Junction, Yukon Territory. Mike Heavey was the mastermind behind the whole event, and he sent all of us this map of the highway.

The Yukon/British Columbia border is the horizontal line  located at about the center of this map. The Canadian/U.S. border is about 2/3 down the page. We crossed both on Wednesday.

I don't know where this sign was. I don't think I ever saw it. But it was an interesting postcard. There were other signs when entering the Yukon that I never caught on film.
We stayed overnight Saturday at the Edgewater Hotel in Whitehorse. We sampled some Mexican-Yukon (huh?) food, and some Canadian beer.
