The Third Day

On Monday August 10, we started down the Alaska Highway towards Haines Junction. We continued that day to the campground at Kathleen Lake.

The ride on Monday started off quite depressing. It was cold for an August day (less than 60 degrees F), and it was raining. The rain started after we had broken camp, so it only affected the biking. The rain only lasted until we got to Haines Junction. From there on it was a fairly nice day. This is Jerry and Dennis arriving in Haines Junction, just before the intersection of the Alaska Highway and the Haines Highway.
Mike thinks the postcard view was on the Alaska Highway from Whitehorse approaching Atlin. The day this postcard was photographed it was a much nicer day.

The other photo is Jerry at the sign leading into Haines Junction. This was at the top of the first real hill on our ride. See the sweat?

This was a river or creek looking towards the West as we passed over on the Haines Highway. These and other beautiful flowers were everywhere on the trip.
This is Kathleen Lake. We camped on a hill behind the camera view. The water here, as was just about all the water, was a pale blue. The sun warmed this location nicely.
Since it had started to rain we cooked dinner here, rather than at the campsite. By the time this photo was taken, the rain was gone and we were ready for the food. This table was located outside a heated building. There was a group of German campers on the table next to us.
Here is the master chef Gary at work cooking chicken. Gary is a vegetarian, so his efforts on the meat items were a labor of culinary expertise, not hunger.
Just before turing in, we drove out of the camp to the Haines Highway to catch this view of the sunset. It was 10:22pm as this photo was taken.
