This is an assortment of pictures and web sites that have inspired me.
To start off with is a small collection of pictures of buildings that were auctioned on Ebay some years back. Unfortunately I didn't record who it was who made them.
Next are photos that I've saved off the Internet of a few interesting buildings and military personnel and equipment. Again I did a poor job of recording where these pictures came from.
In a similar vein, Abandoned Places has some
fascinating pictures of decaying buildings. I have yet to apply any
specific inspiration to my modeling, but the atmosphere of the site is
well worth the visit.
While browsing Terragenesis I came across Moif's post on a campaign he was designing. What first caught my attention was this map for Chapter 3 and that map for Chapter 4 in a post about a 1930's Rocketman campaign on the Terragenesis forums. You can see the maps in context by browsing his blog posts about Rocketman III.
Then I have pictures of real bridges and overpasses to inspire me for the Bridge Project that I plan to enter in the Terragenesis Bridge Contest (Sep 2006).
For my dungeon project I am collecting pictures and links of what other people have built.
The following are some of the best terrain web sites that I have found so far.
Major General Tremorden Redderrings's Colonial Wargames Page — Okay it's not 6mm scale terrain, or even sci-fi. But if you're looking for enormously entertaining battle reports, awesome terrain setups, etc., etc., then you must check this site out. It is highly recommend by many terrain builders.
Necromundicon
— This site is geared toward the Games Workshop game,
Necromunda. This guy is a great terrain builder, and two of
my favorite pieces, just for the detail he puts on them, are
the "Docks"
under the "Gothic" section and the "Bulkhead
1" and "Bulkhead
2" projects under "Industrial scenery".
The Mordheim terrain (also in the "Gothic" Section) is amazing
too.
Terragenesis —
the best Terrain site on the web! Most of the terrain
displayed on this site is built for Games Workshop's games,
but terrain is generic so check it out to see some amazing
projects. Not that much for 6mm, but still plenty to inspire
you.
Worldmakers — another good site with terrain for 28mm skirmish rules. It has a beginners section that could be very helpful if you're just starting out. ** CURRENTLY DOWN **
NetTerrain — a German/English site with lots of pictures of 28mm terrain, and a number of great how-to guides.
Matakishi's Tea House — A fun site covering a broad range of wargaming projects. Good examples of using cork tile for building houses.
The Miniatures Page — one of the top news web sites for miniature gaming. Has news and articles on all aspects of the hobby.
Plastic Soldier Review — News and information on 1:72 scale plastic soldiers (a cheap alternative to 25/28mm metals).
