8/1/99 Once, not so long ago, in a Nevada desert, an earthquake struck. The shake-up was centered near the imaginary line that seperates Nevada and California, and had a 6.2 magnitude reading. Then, another, just less than half and hour later hit, with a magnitude 1 point lower. 5.2 and 6.2 are fairly high readings. They are high enough to shake everyone nearby enough so they may have to hold onto a table to stay standing. They were even strong enough to catch nearby Las Vegas (nearby meaning 50 miles away) in the "outskirts." Many people in that city felt the vibration. One employee of the 1,149-foot hight Stratosphere Hotel and Tower was at the top and still said he felt a small vibration. However, despite Las Vegas getting a shake, the bad stuff was in a desert land, and no damage has been reported. |
