In the Name of God Amen. I William BROOKS, SENR. of the State of North Carolina and County of Hyde, do make and appoint this my last will and testament in manner as follows, viz--
I give my grandaughter Patsy F. BROOKS one negro girl by the name of Judith.
I give my son Samuel BROOKS my man George.
I give my son Caleb F. BROOKS the house and plantation whereon I now live and also my man Jack by his paying into my estate one hundred dollars to be paid my executors for the purpose of paying and settling my lawful debts and settling with the other heirs.
I give to my daughter Peggy CRADLE twenty-five dollars to be paid her by my executors when the money can be raised out of my estate.
I give my daughter Rebecah M. SWINDELL two negro girls by the name of Nelly and Matilday.
I give my daughter Archady BROOKS one dollar in cash and I also lend my daughter Archada during her life time two negroes by the name of Vilet and Mary and after her death to be equally divided among her children lawfully begotten of her body.
I give my three grandaughters Polly, Martha and Sally Ann MCCLAUD my negro woman Selvey and her child Mahettabell and their increase and to be equally divided when Sally Annarrives at the age of eighteen.
I give my daughter Martha BROOKS two negroes, one boy by the name of Edward and one girl by the name of Emeline and also one bed and bedstead and necessary furniture, also one cow and calf and one case of drawers, one mahogany dining table, one linen wheel and one set of silver teaspoons.
I give my grandaughter Nancy C. MASON fifty dollars in money out of my estate when sold and collected and to be paid her by my executor.
I give my grandaughter Betsey Ann B. BENSON one negro girl by the name of Levina and the said negro girl Levina is to be kept with her mother Vilet until she becomes to the age of six years and also twenty-five dollars to be given for her schooling to be paid her by my executor when convenient.
I also reserve out of my estate money enough for funeral expenses and to purchase a head and foot stone and to satisfy my executors for all the expenses which may arise in settling up my estate and all the rest of the property not named in the above will is to be sold at a credit of six months by my executors and after all my lawful debts are paid and other necessary expenses paid the residue, if any, is to be equally divided amongst my surviving daughters.
I also nominate and appoint Israel BROOKS & Samuel BROOKS my lawful executors to this my last will this December th 1837.

Then was this Last Will and Testament of William BROOKS, Dec'd., exhibited into open court and duly proven agreeable to law by William R. BROOKS and Oliver O'NEALE, the subscribing witnesses thereto on oath. At the same time Israel BROOKS and Samuel BROOKS, the executors therein named, came into court and was duly qualified as executors thereto & ordered by the court that the same be recorded.
