Know all men by these presents that I, David CARTER, Administrator of John FARROW, deceased of the County of Hyde, and State of North Carolina for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty six dollars and fifty cents to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have sold at public sale agreeable to law and delivered the same to James CREDLE of the same place one negro woman named Grace and her child York which said negroes I do forever defend unto the said CREDLE against the lawful claim or claims of any person claiming b or under the said John FARROW or his heirs whatever as Witness my hand and seal this 26th of February 1799.

This Indenture made this 17th day of August in the year [of] our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty give Between David CARTER Senior of the State of North Carolina and County of Hyde of the one part and David CARTER Junior of the State and County aforesaid of the Other part Witnesseth That for the Natural Love and affection which I the Said David CARTER Senr. have and do Bear to my Son David CARTER Junr. as well as for his better maintenance and preferment do Give Grant alien and Confirm unto him the said David CARTER Junr. my Land and Plantation in the County aforesaid Containing Forty Six acres of Land Lying from Middle Creek to the Ridge and between Caleb SPENCER & David GIBBS with all the Priviledges and Emoluments theareunto belonging or in any ways appertaining to Gether with my priviledge Down the Road to the Creek for a main drean and my Negro man Named Slade to him and his Heirs For ever Nevertheless Excepting to my Self and the Right and Profits of the aforesaid Land and Negro During the time of my Own Natural Life to be by him and them forever afterwards freely and Peaceable Held enjoyed or Disposed of to his and their Own proper use and benefit in Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the day and Date first above written Signed Sealed and Delivered in presents of
