Company B
2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade
Fort Polk, Louisiana

SEPTEMBER 1974 - NOVEMBER 1974

I flew from Columbia, South Carolina to Shreveport, Louisiana and then by bus to Fort Polk. When I arrived at Fort Polk I was assigned to a unit that had just completed basic training and was getting ready to start infantry training. I was taking Advance Individual Training for Mortars, Indirect Fire Crewman (11C10).

Approximately two weeks before we graduated the First Sergeant called me into his office. He said that he knew that I had been a personnel specialist the last time I was in and asked me to help the company clerk get all of the packets finished up so everybody would be ready to ship on time. Because of my training and helping him I was promoted to Private First Class (PFC E-3). I graduated and then was given two-weeks leave before I had to report to Fort Benning, Georgia.
