He married Sophia Elizabeth, the daughter of Hetty Caroline (SWINDELL) CUTRELL and the father thought to be Sylvester MCGOWAN or Singleton PEGRAM. Malachi POTTER died March 26, 1932 and is buried in the McGowan Cemetery in Lowland, Pamlico County, North Carolina.

1. Sophia Elizabeth POTTER, born June 22, 1892. She married Alvin Rufus CARAWAN, the son of William Alpheus CARAWAN and his wife Eleanor SAWYER. Sophia Elizabeth CARAWAN died in January 1974 and is buried in the McGowan Cemetery in Lowland, Pamlico County, North Carolina.
