JUNE 1983 - NOVEMBER 1983

I already had my instructor identifier (H), when I got accepted to work at the 8th Infantry Division (Mechanized) Non-Commissioned Officers Academy in June 1983. It really felt good to me, being an insturctor at an NCO Academy. I had always felt that the Primary Leadership Development Course was a good one. Even though I had not had the opportunity to attend this course, I learned from instructing it. I learned from my fellow instructors as well as the soldiers who were attending the course. This was one job that I enjoyed.

The NCO Academy was divided into two companies, A Company and B Company. Each company had eight classrooms and there was sixteen soldiers assigned to each classroom and each classroom had two instructors. I enjoyed working in the classroom, but I also enjoyed taking the soldiers out to the field for training. It was easy to talk in class, but it was a lot more fun to see that classroom instruction go into action in the field.

In late November I was called into the First Sergeant's Office. The First Sergeant advised me that I was being reassigned to the Operations Office as the Assistant Operations Sergeant.
