Eleanor SAWYER was born September 13, 1836 at the Head of Alligator River north of New Lands in Hyde County, NC. She married William Alpheus CARAWAN, the son of Manan CARROWON and his wife Rebecca MCGOWAN. Eleanor CARAWAN died October 5, 1900 and is buried in the McGowan Cemetery in Lowland, Pamlico County, North Carolina.

10. Alvin Rufus CARAWAN, born January 21, 1877. He married (1) Mary Jane SADLER and (2) Sophia Elizabeth POTTER. He died April 6, 1968.
