When I got home from school one day, there was no one home. My mom hadn't needed the car, so I got to drive it to school. "If I had known that there wasn't going to be anyone home," I thought to myself, "I would have stayed out longer." I went into my room and tossed my bag onto the bed. Then I went back to the living room.
Fifteen minutes later, I was watching the most current BSB tour schedule scroll actoss the bottom of the screen on MTV when I noticed that the guys were going to taking a vacation around Christmas and New Year's and then do a show in Honolulu, Hawaii in January. I ran for the phone and called my mom's sister, Karen, to ask her to try and get tickets for me and a couple of my friends to the concert. Just as I got off the phone with her, the phone rang.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hi," came a voice, "This is Denise McLean. May I please speak to Jennifer?"
"Speaking," I said.
"Hi," said Denise, "How are you?"
"I'm fine," I said, "How are you?"
"Oh, I'm okay," Denise replied, "Going a little crazy helping with the tour, though. You must be wondering why I'm calling."
"Kind of," I said.
"Well," said Denise, "Nick recieved the letter that you wrote to him a few months ago. He was really interested in what you wrote and after reading it, he passed the letter on for me to read. I have to admit, yours was an interesting letter."
"Oh," I said, "Well, I'm not sure what was on my mind that day. I think I wasn't thinking straight."
Denise laughed. "Well, you really caught Nick's attention. What I'm calling to talk to you about is your invitation to the guys for New Years Eve."
"Oh," I said, "That."
"Does the invitation still stand?" asked Denise.
"Of course," I said,"Why wouldn't it be?"
"Sometimes girls invite the guys and then find out that their parents don't want them there," Denise told me, "I was just making sure."
"Oh, no," I said, "It's fine with my parents. Don't worry about it."
"Great," said Denise, "I have to go and tell the guys. We'll make the arrangements and then I'll call you back in a day or two. Is that okay?"
"That's fine," I said, "Thanks for calling."
"No problem," Denise said, "Thanks for inviting the guys. I'll talk to you soon. Bye."
"Bye," I said before hanging up.
I couldn't believe that Denise McLean had called asking if the BackStreet Boys were still invited for New Years. OF COURSE they were still invited! As soon as it really hit me that they actually might be coming, I grabbed the cordless phone and dialed Kim's number, not realizing that she might not be home. After hanging up the phone (Kim's sister had told me that she was still at dance) I went over to my computer and turned it on. I logged on to the internet and went to check my E-mail. While I was waiting for the screen to pop up, I started daydreaming.
I can't believe that the BackStreet Boys might be coming for New Years! I thought to myself. It's too weird. How many times have I thought about them even getting my letter and reading it? I really hope they can come.
I looked at the inbox screen and saw that I had a new message. I scrolled down and saw that it was from someone who's address I didn't know. I opened the message to read it. I couldn't believe who it was from...NICK CARTER! I quickly read over the E-mail. He said that he was listening to Denise talk to me on the phone and thought it would be a good idea to write to me since I wrote the letter to him and not the other guys. I got off the interenet after reading through the E-mail for the hundreth time and as soon as I reached for the phone to call Kim, the phone rang.
I wonder who that is. I thought to myself, picking up the reciever."Hello?" I asked.
"Hi," came a vaguely familiar voice, "May I please speak to Jennifer?"
"Speaking," I said, "May I ask who's calling?"
"This is Nick," said the voice, "Nick Carter."
There was silence on my end. I didn't know what to say.
"Hello?" Nick asked, "Are you alright?"
"I'm...um...I'm fine," I managed to say.
"Okay, good," said Nick, "I thought I'd killed you or something."
We both laughed.
"So how are you?" asked Nick.
"I'm fine," I said, "How are you?"
"I'm great," Nick said, "I know that Denise McLean called you about the letter you wrote to me."
"Yeah," I said, feeling the nervousness I know felt melt away, "She did. And I got your E-mail."
"Good," said Nick, "I was hoping you did. I just wanted to call and tell you that Denise is working on the arragements right now for the five of us guys."
"That's good," I said, "Are you going to be bringing your girlfriends along?"
"Girlfriends?" Nick asked, "I don't know. I don't have one at the moment, but I think AJ and Brian might be bringing theirs."
"Oh," I said, "Okay. That's fine. What about your families?"
"They were invited too?" Nick asked.
"Yeah," I said, "They were. Are you planning to bring them?"
"I don't know," said Nick, "I think Denise might be coming along and maybe my parents and my siblings. I don't know about everyone else."
"Great," I said, "Are you going to need a place to stay?"
"I don't think so," Nick said, "I think we're going to be staying in a hotel."
"Okay," I said, "I was going to tell you that if you need someplace to stay, I can fit about five or six people at my house and my friend Kim can probably fit about the same."
"Oh, okay," said Nick, "Great. If we can't find someplace to stay, I'll let you know."
"Okay," I said, "No problem. As long as you can give me a couple days notice."
"Sure," Nick said.
I got off with Nick and then ran to go tell my mom, who had come home, what had just happened. She thought I was exaggerating again.
"Mom!" I said, "I'm not exaggerating. He called me and said that they're coming! I promise!"
"Okay," said Mom, "And are they going to stay here?"
"I don't know," I said, "He's going to let me know if they can get hotel rooms or not."
"Okay," said Mom, "As long as you don't tell me the day before that they're going to stay here."
"I know that," I said, "Don't worry. I told Nick that he has to give me advance notice."
"Good," Mom said.
Later that night, Kim called me. "My sister said that you called," she said.
"Yeah," I said, "I did. Guess who called me today."
"Who?" Kim asked.
"Guess," I said, "Someone who we've been waiting to call for a while."
"Is it someone who has to do with a certain group of guys that we want to come for New Years?" asked Kim.
"Maybe," I said, "I think I'll make you wait a while before I tell you."
"No!" Kim exclaimed, "Tell me now!"
"Okay, okay," I said, "Denise McLean called me..."
"No way!" Kim interrupted.
"Wait," I said, "I'm not done yet. And Nick Carter called me later!"
"That's the one you had been waiting for," said Kim.
"Yeah," I said, "I know. And he said that they're going to be coming, some of the guys are going to be bringing their girlfriends, he doesn't have one, and the families might be coming. He's not sure yet."
"Are you sure that it was really him and not some other guy pretending?" Kim asked.
"Yeah," I said, "Why would someone do that?"
"I don't know," said Kim, "You never know."
"I'm sure it was him," I said, "And I can't believe they're coming!"
"Neither can I," Kim said, "That's so cool!"
"I know," I said, "We finally get to meet them."
