Chapter 1

“Lindsey, PLEASE be home by 11:30 or 12,” my mom said as me and Mary were walking out of the house. We were going to Pleasure Island.

“Promise,” I said as I gave her a hug and we walked out to my brand new black Crystler Sebring.

“This is the coolest car,” Mary said as we opened the top.

“I know, I LOVE it! It took me two years to save for it!” As we got in, rain dripped down the windshield. “Damn, we have to put the top up,” I whined. We put it up and pulled out of the driveway and went to the highway.

The rain got harder and harder until it finally turned into a storm. It got so bad we decided to turn around and go home.”Well this sucks,” Mary complained.

“Yeah, we’ll go tomorrow.”

“Kay,”

I turned the radio on and “Tearin’ Up My Heart” by ‘N Sync came on. “Oh my god I HATE them!” I screamed, “The Backstreet Boys are way better.”

“You are soo weird. Justin is soooo hot! I cannot stand the Backstreet Boys!”

“Ok, you’re loss,” we both laughed. We’ve been best friends for such a long time and we never get mad at eachother. I checked the rear view mirror and there was a huge bus coming up behind us. By now the rain was so bad I could hardly see and it kept gettin harder and harder.

The next thing I knew I was in the hospital with 4 guys standing around my bed. “Oh my god! Where am I?” I panicked.

“Umm, a hospital,” one of the guys teased. I opened my eyes more to see who they were.

“Oh my gosh you’re...you’re.....” I stuttered.

“The Backstreet Boys,” the answered for me.

“Minus Brian,” Nick joked. I tried to laugh and got a terrible ache in my side.

“What happened?” I asked still unaware of what was going on.

“Umm, well, we had a car accident,” Kevin told me.

“We?” I asked confused. “Wait, where’s Mary? Is she ok? What happened to her? You guys, answer me!!!” I screamed immpatiently.

“Shhh, it’s ok,” Nick sat on the bed next to me and stroked my back.

“She is in the next room. She’s....unconscious. Brian is checking with the doctor now,” he said calmly.

Immediately, I started bawling. “No, she HAS to be ok.”

“Lins, it’s ok. She’ll be alright,” Nick tried to reassure me.

“No, Nick, you don’t understand. She’s been my best friend forever. She has to be ok.” I cried harder and he wrapped his arms around me. He held me in his arms until I stopped crying.

“Oh no Nick, my mom..”

“Taken care of, they’re on their way.”

“GOOD!”

Everyone had left except for Brian and Nick. “So what exactly happened?” I asked.

“Well, our bus was behind your car and the wins shield whipers stopped. The bus driver shouldn’t see any thing and he slammed into you guys,” Brian told me.

“Oh no...my brand new car,” I dropped my head.

“It was brand new?” Nick asked sounding guilty.

“Yeah, only a week old. Took me 2 years to save for it.”

“I’m sooo sorry,” Brian apologized.

“I’m gonna pay for the damage,” Nick offered.

“Aww, that’s so sweet of you,” I said.

“God, stop. You’ve only known eachother for like 20 minutes and you’re already all over eachother,” we both blushed at Brian’s comment.

“How’s Mary?” I asked trying to change the subject.

“No change,” he frowned. Tears brimmed over the edges of my eyes.

“Lindsey, Lindsey, please, please, please don’t cry,” Nick pleaded.”I hate seeing people cry, it makes me wanna cry.” I could tell by the look on his face he wasn’t lying.

“I can’t help it, she’s like my sister.” Just then the doctor walked in.

“Lindsey,” he started,” you’re gonna be fine. You only have some scrapes and bruises. You are very lucky.”

“Well what about Mary?”

“Well her head hit the dashboard pretty hard. She’s still unconscious, we don’t know what to expect.” I closed my eyes and put my head down. This while thing was like a bad dream. The doctor walked out just as my family and Mary’s family walked in.

“MOM!” I ran to her, “Mary, she...she’s unconscious.” Again, I started sobbing.

“I’m sorry. Shhh don’t cry,” my parents hugged me. “Who are these guys?” my mom asked. “Wait, I know this, they look familiar. OH YEAH! You’re N Sync aren’t you?” Everyone looked at eachother and I started to laugh.

“NO MOM! They are the BACKSTREET BOYS! You know, the guys who’s pictures are plastered all over my wall.”

“Ohhh yeah. Sorry, it’s hard to keep all the bands straight!” she laughed.

“Yeah, we get that a lot from the parents.” Kevin told her.

Me, the Boys, and our families walked into Mary’s room. Brian was sitting beside her bed stroking her hair. Her eyes fluttered and then opened a little.

“Oh my gosh! MARY!” I ran to her bed.

“Hey, Lins. Are you cryin?” she asked confused. I laughed and hugged her. “Oww, my head hurts,” she whined. We all laughed, “What?”

“Well, first of all, you are lying in a hospital bed. And second, THE BACKSTREET BOYS ARE RIGHT HERE!!!!” I said.

“Ok, why am I in a hospital? And you all know how much I hate the Backstreet Boys!” she whined.

“Well, you’re here because we were all in a car accident and THANKS SO MUCH for hating us,” AJ pretended to cry.

“That looks so real, Bone,” Brian laughed.

“Well, you know, I try.”

“Yeah, sure.” Brian turned to Mary, “How ya feelin’?”

“Ok, my head hurts a lot though. Hey mom, hey dad,” she turned to them totally blowing off Brian.

“Hi honey,” they said, “we talked to the doctor. He said Lindsey can leave tomorrow and you can leave in a few days.” Mary and I looked at eachother and smiled.

“GREAT!” we said together.

“I’ll tell ya everything later,” I whispered to Mary.

“Kay. Right now need some music. Did you bring my stuff mom? You know I hate not having music,” Mary asked.

“Of course,” her mom answered.

“Gosh Mary, who needs CDs when you have the Backstreet Boys live...in person!!” I screamed.

“NOOOOOO WAY!!”

“Fine,” I said simply. She reached over and plugged in her CD player. She pulled her CD case out and unzipped it.

“Oh yeah! ‘N Sync! Now THAT’S good music!” Mary smiled.

“No! No way,” the guys yelled.

“We hate them,” Brian started.

“Yeah, they are so rude to us,” Howie finished.

“Well TOO bad! I love em!” Mary shouted.

“Put us in,” AJ pouted.

“I don’t have either of your CDs.”

“Oh, fine then,” he tried to sound hurt.

“Fine.”

“We gotta go get settled in our apartments,” Kevin broke the silence.

“Nooo...” Nick whined.

“We, or just you, can come back tomorrow,” he said.

“And me!” Brian joined in.

“Fine both of you can come back tomorrow,” he corrected his sentence.

“Fine.” He turned to me, “Get better and I’ll come back early tomorrow.” He gave me a hug.

“Ok, bye!” I hugged all the guys as they walked out.

“Hope you feel better,” Brian said sweetly to Mary.

“Uhuh,” she responded not paying any attention what-so-ever.

“It’s late. We should let you two get some rest,” my mom said.

“Yeah. We’ll try and come tomorrow afternoon,” Mary’s mom chimed in.

“Ok, bye!” we said in unison and started to laugh.

“So what exactly happened?” Mary asked when everyone had left the room.

I sat in a chair next to her bed. “We were in a car accident. Their bus was behind us and the windshield whipers went out in the middle of that terrible storm. The driver couldn’t see anything so the bus hit my car.”

“Ahhh, your car-”

“Yeah, ruined.”

“Oh man, sucks to be you.”

“Oh, thanks for the sympathy. Anyway, Nick said he’d pay for it but I don’t want him to do that.”

“Why not? he’s only got a bazillion dollars!” we laughed at how funny that sounded.

“I think Brian likes you, Mary.”

“Ugh, god I hope not,” she made a disgusted face.

“Mary, you don’t know what you’re saying. Maybe it’s just all the pain medication, but give him a chance.”

“Why should I?”

“Because he seems like a great guy. He won’t be like David.” She cringed when I said David’s name.

“I just don’t want to ok,” she sounded irritated.

“Ok, ok. Just think about it.”

“So what’s up with you and Nick?” she asked trying to change the subject off of David and Brian.

“Whatta ya mean?”

“I’m not stupid, it was so obvious, Lindsey.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I know Nick has always been your favorite. And he was looking at you like he was into you.”

“Really? I hope so. He’s so great.” I smiled uncontrollably.

~*~MEANWHILE~*~ (with the boys)

“WOO-HOO! Now we get a new bus!” AJ hooted.

“I love new buses,” Brian joked along with AJ.

“You guys sound so dumb,” Howie said.

“Don’t we always?” Brian asked.

“Yes, ALWAYS!” Kevin laughed.

“Hey Frack, what’s up with you? You’re never this quiet,” Brian asked a little concerned for his best friend.

“Huh? Oh, nothing. Just thinkin.”

“Bout Lindsey?” AJ teased.

“OOH!! Nicky has a crush,” Brian teased.

“Shut up! Don’t call me Nicky. Only my mom calls me that,” he defended himself.

“Someone’s a bit moody,” AJ said.

“Sorry guys,” he hopped on the bus and grabbed a coke. The bus took off to their condos by the beach.

~*~BACK AT THE HOSPITAL~*~

“I’m tired, I’m going back to my room,” I said yawning.

“Ok, see ya in the morning.

“Night,” I walked out.
