Chapter 13

The next morning, Nick knocked softly on Emma's room door. It was almost noon, and the guys had to go to an interview with some radio station at two. He wanted to take Emma out to lunch, but she didn't appear to be awake. He had been standing there for a few minutes. He knocked a little harder.

Emmalee quickly dressed, and hurried to open the door. She opened it, and smiled.

"Hey, Nick. Sorry, I was in the shower when you knocked," she said, grabbing a brush and combing out the tangles from her black hair.

Nick entered the room, and sat down on the bed. "Wanna go out to lunch with me? We have an interview in a couple of hours," Nick said, staring out the balcony into the bright blue sky.

"Oh, yeah sure, Nick. Aww, you mean I gotta stay here by myself all day?" she pouted.

Nick laughed. "No, it's only gonna be for a few hours. Then we can go to the local park. It's very beautiful," Nick said. Emma finished brushing her hair, and was now applying her make-up.

"When did you go there?" she asked.

"Oh, I didn't go in. We just passed by it," he explained, standing up and walking over to the balcony doors. He slid them open and stepped up to the railing, the warm breeze slightly ruffling his hair.

"Okay, Nick. I'm ready, let's go," Emma said, grabbing her purse. Nick turned and closed the balcony doors behind him. When he saw Emma walking towards the door, he gently grabbed her arm and turned her around.

"Aren't you gonna kiss me, baby?" Nick teased. Emmalee smiled, and brought Nick's head down towards hers. She gave him a sweet and short kiss that titillated his senses.

"Satisfied?" she asked, smiling. She grabbed his hand, and pulled him out of her hotel room.

"I guess so..." he said. He knew she would stop.

Emmalee turned around, a slight smile on her face. "All right, Carter, I know what you're trying to pull and it's not gonna work-"

Nick grabbed Emma, and gave her a deep and long kiss, his hands caressing her back up and down. They broke away, breathless.

"What were you saying, baby?" Nick asked, innocently. Emma laughed.

"Don't push your luck, Nick," she said. They started walking again, and were soon in Nick's rental car. They drove towards a small restaurant that he wanted to go to. It looked nice.

They were soon seated in a small table, sitting on opposite sides of each other. They ordered something that sounded good, and waited for their food.

Emma started thinking about their relationship and where it was headed. Was their relationship really worth it? She started to have doubts again about their age difference. She wanted a serious relationship, but was that what he really wanted, or had he said that so he could get with her?

Nick saw Emma go into deep thought. He reached over the table and placed his hand over hers. Startled, she looked up. "Hey, baby, are you okay?" Nick asked, concern showing in his face. He rubbed circles over her hand, sending shocks of electricity bolting through her hand. She slowly nodded. "Are you sure? I mean, you looked really pensive there for a minute," he pursued. He picked up her hand, and brushed his lips over it. Her heart started to thump.

Should I tell him? Should I? she thought, desperately. She decided that she had to have things out in the open. "Actually, Nick, I have to talk to you," she said, extracting her hand from his. Something a little like fear passed through his face, his tender heart starting to beat loudly.
