Chapter 17

A few days later, Alyssa's phone rang. She rushed to it, hoping it was Nick.

"Hello?" she answered smiling.

"Natasha?" a woman's voice said from the other end.

"Uh...yeah. Who's this?" Alyssa said.

"What do you mean who's this? It's your MOTHER. I hope you were kidding," the woman said.

Uh-oh, she thought.

"Uh, yeah, Mom. Of course," she answered, with a nervous laugh.

"You sound weird. What's the matter?" the woman asked.

"Nothing, just a little cold coming on, I think," Alyssa lied, her heart pounding.

"Well, honey, I just called to see how you were, and to tell you that I'm gonna stay here in Madrid with your brother for an extra month. It's just too lovely to leave."

"Um, okay. But, sorry, uh, Mom, I have to get going because I have a photo shoot in less than an hour okay? Call me later. Bye!" Alyssa said.

"Okay, bye, Natasha. Are you sure everything's all right?"

"Yes! Now good-bye, and have a great time in Madrid." Alyssa replaced the receiver, and heaved a sigh of relief.

"That was too close," she said. The phone started to ring again. She grabbed it.

"Hello?" she asked cautiously.

"Hey, baby, what's up?" Nick said.

"Oh, hey, Nick," Alyssa said, smiling again.

"Do you wanna go out tonight? I passed this restaurant this afternoon that looked really nice and I haven't gone there yet, so I wanna go tonight," Nick explained.

"Yeah, sure, Nick, that would be great," Alyssa said.

"Great. It's called Valentino's. I hope you like Italian food," Nick said.

"Love it," Alyssa replied.

"Well, Tash, I'll talk to you later okay? I'll be by at around six," Nick said.

"Okay. See you then. Bye," Alyssa said.

"Bye."

"Sweetie, what's the matter? You've been looking so glum for the past few days," Mark said, wrapping his arms around Natasha. "I don't like seeing you this way."

"It's just that my parents are getting on my nerves," Natasha complained.

"Don't worry about them, Aly. You'll soon be rid of them. I mean, you're going off to college right?" Mark asked.

"Uh...yeah," Matasha replied.

"Listen, babe, let's go to this restaurant that I went to last week to cheer you up. It has good food, and you'll love it. Have you heard of it? It's called Valentino's," Mark said.

"No. I'd love to go. That'll probably stop me from thinking of them."

"Great. We'll leave at dinnertime, around 6, okay, baby?" Mark said.

"Okay," Natasha replied. She sighed, as she pulled Mark closer to her, and closing her mouth over his.
