Chapter 20

That weekend, while Natasha, Nicole, and Mark were at the carnival, Alyssa and Nick were at his parents' house having dinner.

"So how is your career going, Natasha?" Mrs. Carter asked, carefully taking a spoonful of fried fish from her plate.

"It's wonderful. Everything's great. I've been able to rest more lately because I requested this month's schedule to be not so hectic. My doctor said that I should take it easy because I have anemia," Alyssa said. She felt guilty although it was true. She had anemia, not Natasha.

"You do? I didn't know that," Nick said, looking up from his plate and into her eyes.

"It never really came up. What about you Mrs. Carter? What are you into?" she asked. She couldn't be more nervous. Her palms were damp, her heart was racing, and she couldn't wait to get out of there. It's not that the Carters weren't nice, because they were, but they somehow made her uncomfortable.

Later that night, when Nick was taking Alyssa back home, he reached over and grabbed one of her hands.

"So what did you think about my parents, Tash?" he questioned.

"They were really nice people. I liked them," she replied.

"Good. So do you want me to take you home now, or what?" he asked.

"Yeah, take me home. I want you to come in with me, though," she said.

"Okay."

"This is sooo fun!" Nicole shrieked. Natasha and Mark trailed behind her. Nicole turned around and stared at Natasha. "Don't you think, Aly?"

"Yeah," Natasha responded. One of her hands intertwined with Mark, she put her head on his shoulder as they walked. She stifled a yawn. She was really tired, and just wanted to fall into bed.

"Oh, look, Aly! Our favorite ride!" Nicole exclaimed, pointing to a very high and dangerous-looking ride, that flipped people upside down and around for a minute. Natasha felt sick just thinking of going on that ride.

"Come on, Aly, let's get on it!" Nicole urged.

"Oh, Nik, I'm sorry, but my stomach hurts. I don't think I should go on the ride," Natasha lied.

"Aw, come on, Alyssa!"

"Sorry, Nicole, but I'm serious, I think I'll be sick if I ride it," Natasha insisted. Nicole turned to Mark.

"Will you ride it with me, please?" she asked him.

"Well..." Mark stole a glance at Natasha. She looked straight ahead. "Um...sure, Nicole."

Natasha retrieved her hand, and crossed her arms. She followed Mark and Nicole, and saw them make the line while she waited for them at the entrance of the ride. She sat down on the bench, facing away from the ride. Someone sat down next to her. She looked up to see who had sat next to her. It was a guy. Kind of cute, glasses, with dark brown hair, and brown eyes. Her natural flirtatious manner emerged. She smiled.

"Hey," she greeted. The guy looked over at her, not believing that that beautiful creature had spoken to him. He knew that they went to the same high school. Maybe she recognized him.

"Hi," he responded shyly.

"I've seen you around someplace," she said, vaguely remembering seeing him around somewhere.

"Yeah, we go to the same high school and have a few classes together," he replied softly.

"You're really cute, you know that?" she said. He turned red.

"Thanks, Alyssa," he responded.

"You know me?" she asked.

"Well..I've seen you around," he said.

"I'm sorry I don't remember your name," Natasha said.

"Michael...but call me Mike," he said.

"Okay...Mike." Natasha turned her head and saw Nicole and Mark walking towards her.

"Well, I gotta go, Mike. I'll see you around, okay?" Natasha stood up.

"Okay, Alyssa. See you around," Mike said. Natasha walked up to Nicole and Mark.

"So how did it go?" Natasha asked.

"It was really fun," Nicole responded. "I'm tired though, you guys wanna head home?"

"Yeah," Natasha quickly replied.

"Who was that, Aly?" Mark asked.

"Oh, some guy from school. Let's go," Natasha said, grabbing his arm.

"Okay."

"Mmmm...you taste so good, Tash," Nick murmured, sucking gently on Alyssa's neck. She moaned. They were lying on the couch, making out heavily. She was afraid it was going to go farther than she wanted, but she didn't want to stop. She felt too good. But she had to stop. She gently pushed Nick away.

"What's the matter, baby?" Nick questioned, looking at Alyssa.

"I think we should stop, Nick. It's getting too hot. I think you'd better go home," she said. He sat up.

"Okay, Natasha. I'll call you tomorrow, okay?" he said.

"Are you mad?" Alyssa asked.

"Look, you get me all worked up, all turned on, and then you tell me we have to stop. How do you think that makes me feel, Natasha?" Nick said. "Frustrated as hell, is what. But I understand. I do. I just don't know what to do. But we'll talk about this later, okay? I should be getting home." He stood up, and leaned down to kiss her mouth. "I'll call you tomorrow, okay?"

"Okay. Nick...I love you," Alyssa whispered.

"I love you too, sweetie. Goodnight."

When he had gone, Natasha lay back against the sofa.

"What am I gonna do?" she said to herself.
