Chapter 22

Natasha entered Joe's Diner, and picked a table near the door, so that when Mark entered, he'd see her right away.

Natasha's eyes almost fell out of her head when she saw the next person who entered the diner. It was Nick Carter! And he was heading her way.

"Oh, shit! What do I do?" she muttered to herself, virtually panicking. Nick plopped down in the seat across from her, and smiled.

"What's up, baby?" he asked.

Oh, crap! What do I do? Natasha thought. She paled.

"What's wrong, Tash? Why are you so pale? Are you sick?" Nick asked, concerned. He reached over the table and grabbed her hand. She yanked it away without thinking. He looked up at her, hurt written all over his face.

"Natasha, will you say something? Did I do something wrong?" Nick asked.

"Uh...why would you say something like that?" Natasha asked, trying to buy time.

"Because you pulled away so abruptly like I was some...I dunno...stranger, or something," Nick said. Just then, another person entered the diner, and this time, it was Mark.

"Shit!" she shrieked, not thinking.

"Hey, what's the matter?" Nick asked, frowning. Mark saw her, and started walking her way. He noticed someone sitting with her, and slowed down.

"Hey. Am I interrupting something?" Mark asked, when he reached the table.

"Uh..." Natasha cleared her throat.

"Who is he?" Nick and Mark said silmutaneously.

"I'm her boyfriend!" they both said again at the same time. Natasha just wanted the earth to swallow her whole right this instant.

"What the hell is he talking about?" Nick demanded, his face turning red.

"No, what are you talking about? Is that why you brought me over here, Alyssa? To show off your new boyfriend without bothering to break up with me first!" Mark shouted.

"Alyssa?" Nick said, confused.

When Natasha saw Alyssa enter the diner, she could have died of relief. Alyssa quickly looked her way, and almost fainted at what she saw. She could not believe it. Everything was definitely ruined. Mark, Nick, and Natasha all turned and looked at her. If the situation wasn't so crucial, she would crack up laughing at the funny expressions on Nick and Mark. She calmly walked towards them.

"Uh...hi guys," Alyssa greeted. Both Nick and Mark ketp looking back between Alyssa and Natasha.

"Are you guys twins?" Nick finally asked.

"Uh...not exactly. We just look extremely alike," Natasha replied.

"So..then, who's Natasha?" Nick asked. Alyssa and Natasha both looked at each other. They knew what the other was thinking: "Should they tell them the truth, or cover it up and say who they really were?"

"Um...okay, guys. I think we should tell them the truth, Aly," Natasha said. Alyssa sighed. There went her relationship with Nick Carter.

A few hours later, and after they had told them the complete, complicated, confusing story, both Nick and Mark had stalked off, mad as hell.

Alyssa and Natasha sat across from each other in the diner.

"Well, Aly. I guess it's back to the real world. The thing with Mark wasn't really serious. I mean, he thought it was, but I never did. I know it's gonna be hard for him to see you at school and know that you aren't the person he had been with all this time. But I'll never see him again. If you can, tell him I'm really sorry for hurting him, that it was never my intention, but I did have feelings for them. But knowing how I am, I know I'll get over him pretty soon. I always do. As for you, I'm not so sure. You look so depressed, Aly. Are you sure you're gonna be okay?" Natasha said, standing up.

"Yeah," Alyssa whispered, wiping the tears from her eyes. Natasha's eyes never even watered.

She must be very strong...or very cold, Alyssa thought. But she knew that it wasn't that she was cold, but that Natasha was definitely a very strong person.

"Keep in touch, okay?" Natasha said. She pulled Alyssa in for a hug.

"And thank you. Thank you for everything. I know I got you into this big mess, and I'm really sorry. I'll call you sometime, okay?" Natasha said.

"Okay," Alyssa replied.

"Now, stop crying, and get yourself some rest. You look like you need it. See you later, Aly." Natasha turned and walked out of the diner. Alyssa saw her getting into a cab. A few minutes later, Alyssa hailed a cab herself.

When she was on her bed, thinking about Nick, her phone began to ring. She knew she was still grounded, so she quickly picked up the phone.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Alyssa?" a guy's voice asked.

"Yeah?" she replied.

"Hey. It's me. Nick."

"Nick?!" Alyssa said, bolting out of bed.

"Yeah...listen...I shouldn't have left the way I did, I was just so mad that you had lied to me. But then, I realized, you really didn't have a choice, because you guys had switched, and you couldn't just tell me the whole truth, when you had promised to tell no one. And your feelings for me aren't a lie, right?" Nick asked.

"No. Of course not. I still love you," she whispered into the phone.

"I love you too...Alyssa. It's just going to get some getting used to calling you Natasha. I know that thing I had for her is totally gone now that I know the truth. I should have never thought that she would've changed her mind about me. So...can I come see you?"

"Yes! But, I'll meet you in the corner, because I'm grounded for lying to my parents," Alyssa responded.

"Okay. Where do you live?"

Twenty minutes later, Alyssa saw Nick's car. When he got out, she ran into his arms, and kissed him, then hugged him really hard.

"I'm so sorry, Nick. I'll never lie about anything to you again," she promised. She pulled back and kissed Nick again, this time, more softly and sweeter. She wrapped her arms around his neck.

"I love you, Alyssa. So much, and I never want to lose you, okay?" Nick asked.

"Deal." Alyssa smiled. She really felt bad for Natasha and Mark. And it would be especially weird seeing Mark around, but she was thankful that she and Nick had stayed together, after all that had happened. That really equaled true love, and she was sure that's what was between her and Nick.
