Chapter 1

"Denise! Did you take my light blue halter top?" 20-year old Danielle Saxon yelled, her face turning red. She hated when her sister took her stuff without her permission.

"DENISE!" Danielle yelled again, looking through her closet. Just then Denise entered her room.

"What, Dani? What's the matter with you?" Denise asked innocently, standing by the door. Danielle looked at her twin sister distastefully. She was wearing a mini skirt that was so short, that you could almost see her underwear, and she wasn't wearing a bra with the tight shirt she was wearing.

"Where the hell's my light blue halter top? I can't find it anywhere!" Dani screeched.

"And who says that I took it? Maybe Michelle took it."

"Because you always take my stuff without asking me first! Michelle always asks before borrowing my stuff, and it sure wasn't Mike!" Dani replied, getting madder. Michelle was their 17-year old sister, and Mike was their 16-year old brother. "Just give it to me! I'm going to be late!"

"Where are you going?" Denise inquired.

"None of your damn business, just get me my shirt."

"God, Dani, you don't have to get so riled up over a simple shirt," Denise replied, then turning swiftly and walking out of the room. Dani sighed. She hated getting into fights with her sister, but sometimes she got her so mad.

It was Saturday afternoon, and Dani had to attend a Summer Bash that her father was attending, because he worked for the people who were throwing it. Her father had asked her to accompany him because her mother was out of town for the week on a business trip to California. He couldn't miss the bash because he was the secretary of Jive Records, and Jive was throwing the party. Denise hadn't wanted to go because she had a date with her boyfriend.

Denise came back into the room with the halter top in hand. "Here."

"Thank you for letting me borrow your shirt," Dani said, sarcastically.

"Anytime." With that, Denise turned and slammed the bedroom door behind her.

Dani looked at the clock. It was almost 11:30. They had to be there at 12, and she wasn't even dressed yet. Sure enough, a few seconds letter, there was a knock on her door.

"Are you ready, honey?" Henry Saxon, her dad, called out.

"Not, yet, Dad, give me ten more minutes," she called back. She quickly dressed and looked in the mirror. Her blonde hair combed straight, and her green eyes accentuated by eye liner. After making sure that she looked fine, she grabbed her purse, and ran downstairs.

"Wow, it's so pretty here," Dani whispered. She looked around the garden. There were flowers everywhere. The decoration was perfect, and there was a beautiful pond with ducks and geese swimming around.

"Yes, it's very pretty." Mr. Saxon replied. He was a tall, port man, with graying brown hair, and blue eyes. He looked around and saw the president of Jive. "Look, Dani, just mingle around for a little bit. I have to talk to the president of Jive."

"No, Dad, don't leave me here! I don't know any of these people," Dani whined.

"It'll be okay, Dani. I'll see you in a little bit." Mr. Saxon walked off. Dani groaned.

Great. This is just perfect, she thought. She decided to walk to the pond and watch the ducks. When she reached the pond she sat down on one of the benches and watched the water.

"Did you see that girl? And man, I thought this was gonna be a boring party," AJ said. Nick and Howie turned to look at the girl AJ was referring to. Kevin and Brian wisely didn't look, because their wives were with them.

"AJ, you shouldn't be checking out other girls. You're engaged!" Kristin, Kevin's wife, protested.

"She's not my type. She's blonde," Howie said, turning back to the group.

"Well, I guess she's all yours, Nick," AJ said, reluctantly.

"Well, you guys, I'm gonna go talk to her. She looks lonely over there," Nick stated. He turned and started walking towards Dani.

"Hey, can I sit down?" Nick asked. Dani looked up. She thought he was one of the Backstreet Boys, but she wasn't sure. She wasn't into that type of music. She thought they were all empty-headed wannabe artists.

"Yeah, sure, sit down. I was getting kind of lonely here, anyway," she replied, politely.

He's very hot though, even though he may be dumb, whoever he is, she thought.

"So you're not a fan, huh?" Nick said, smiling.

"No, sorry," she replied.

"No, no, that's a good thing," he replied.

"Oh...okay." She laughed.

"It's just that when you meet a pretty girl and she's nice, it ruins it if she's a fan, you know what I mean?" he said. She nodded.

"Yeah. You're one of the Backstreet Boys, right?" she asked.

"Yeah," he said laughing. "So, how come you're at this party?"

"My dad is the secretary of Jive," she replied.

"Really? That's great."

"Yeah, it allows me to come to exclusive and veeery important parties like these," she said, smiling.

"Yeah...You know, you have a beautiful smile," Nick complimented.

"Oh yeah? I bet you say that to all the nice girls you meet," she replied, trying not to smile.

"Nah, just the ones I like," he replied.

"So...we never introduced ourselves. I'm Nick Carter." He extended his hand, and Dani placed her hands in his. His were so big and strong and warm. She didn't feel like letting go.

"My name's Danielle Saxon...But you can call me Dani," she said.

"Nice meeting you, Dani." He looked back over his shoulder when he heard his name. AJ was motioning that they were about to leave. He turned back to Dani.

"Listen, I gotta go. But I'd really like to see you again. Here's my number." He quickly scrawled his name and number on a piece of paper he had in his pocket, and the pen he kept in his jacket. He placed the paper in her hand.

"Call me, okay? I'll see you later." He stood up, smiled, then walked away.

Dani stared at the piece of paper, then shoved it into her pocket, not ever planning on using it.

"He's just another airheaded blonde pop star. He probably faked all the niceness. And this is probably a fake phone number, too." With that thought, she stood up and went to look for her father.
