"Nickolas! Come here, right now! I told you to get away from that...girl," Mrs. Carter said, looking at Jessica in disdain, then pulling ten-year-old Nick away from Jessica. They had been playing cards in the garden, and Jane had caught them.
"But, Mom, I was just-" Nick started.
"I know what you were doing. Now, come along, we're going to a dinner party at the Joneses house, and they want you to go, so you can play with Melissa," Mrs. Carter said, putting a smile on her face. All she ever wanted was for Nick to marry Melissa when they get older. They would form the perfect family.
"But I don't wanna play with Melissa!" Nick whined.
"Well, you are going to have to, young man. I give the rules around here, and you are going with us to the dinner party to play with Melissa, and that's final. Now, come on, you have to go get ready."
Jessica Walters saw the pair walk away, and tears started pouring out of her eyes.
"She doesn't like me. She'll never like me. Why won't she let me play with Nick?" Jessica stood up, and ran back inside the mansion to the maid's wing, where she lived with her mother who was one of the cooks, her father who was the butler, and older brother, who was the gardener. Jessica helped her the maid's clean sometimes, since that was what she would become when she was older. But right then, she ran into her tiny bedroom, and threw herself on her bed, sobs racking her body.
Ten years later...
"Nick, come on, man, your prestigious parents would never allow you to go out with Jessica, let alone marry her!" his best friend, Brian, claimed.
Nick sighed. "I know that, Bri, but I love her! And I can't even tell her. I don't even talk to her anymore. Mother makes sure of that. I haven't talked to her in like forever," he moaned. Brian patted his friend's back.
"I know how you feel, man. But come on, we have rehearsal in about an hour. We better go meet the rest of the guys." Brian stood up from Nick's bed, and stretched.
"I'll meet you at the car, I need to go to the bathroom first," Nick said, standing up from his bed as well. Brian nodded, and walked out of the room. Nick used the bathroom, and then walked slowly down the stairs. When he had reached the bottom stairs, he saw a girl with his back towards him. She had beautiful long black hair. He wouldn't mistake that hair anywhere. It was Jessica. His heart started beating rapidly. He couldn't believe his luck.
"Jessica?" he questioned, stepping into the foyer. Jessica jumped and swiveled around. Her mouth gaped open when she saw who it was.
"Nick." Right then, there was no one around but them, the two engulfed in their emotions. They stood there, frozen to the spot, neither speaking. Suddenly, Nick ran to where she was and wrapped his arms around her, burying his face in her hair.
"Oh, God, Jess, I missed you so much." Jessica stood frozen, afraid of what might happen if they were caught. She pushed Nick out of her arms. He got a hurt, confused look. "What's wrong, Jessica?" He stepped away from her.
"Your mother might see us, Nick. I don't want to get in trouble again. She said she would kick us all out if we didn't stop seeing each other," Jessica said, going back to her chore. Just then, Mrs. Carter came into the room.
