Chapter 11

Jessica waited until everyone was sleeping and all the lights were out before she left her room and went into the kitchen to retrieve the cell phone that Nick had placed in the kitchen.

When she was back in her room, about ten minutes later, she saw the cell phone begin to vibrate and a light that kept flashing. She hurriedly picked up the phone and pressed 'Talk'.

"Hello?" she answered cautiously.

"Hey, Jess," Nick greeted.

"Hey, Nick. I'm like so scared we're gonna get caught," Jessica said.

"Oh, don't worry, baby. This is the safest way we could talk. If you hear footsteps, all you gotta do is hide the phone, okay?" Nick responded.

"Okay," Jess agreed.

"Hey, I'm gonna be out of town for a few weeks. We have a few shows and interviews to do before we get another break for a few weeks before the tour which'll probably last about four months...which, of course, I was wondering if you wanted to come with me with the rest of the guys and some of their girls," Nick finished.

"Nick...I don't know. You're mom will kick me and my family out for sure if I do something like that," Jessica responded.

"Oh, come on, Jess. Don't worry about my mother. Please say you'll come with me. I'll miss you too much," Nick whined.

"Nick..." Jessica sighed.

"Pleeaase!" Nick continued.

"What am I gonna tell your mom?" Jess questioned.

"I don't know, make something up or something. Come on, Jess, you gotta go with me. I'll miss you too much," Nick pleaded teasingly.

"Well...if I find a plausible excuse then okay, I'll go with you," Jessica responded.

"Great. Well, listen, I better let you go to bed before my mom comes in here. I know she always does," Nick said.

"Okay. Hey, when are you leaving to do those shows?" Jessica inquired.

"Next week. So, I'll talk to ya later, babe. Love you." Nick pressed 'End' on his cell phone and turned it off before putting it in his bedside table drawer. He smiled, drifting off to sleep.

The week flew by, and before Jessica knew it, it was the day of Nick's departure to go do the shows. Jessica secretly accompanied him to the airport. Since it was Sunday, which was her day off, Mrs. Carter wouldn't notice that she was missing or had gone off with Nick.

"I'm gonna miss you, baby. But I'll call you tonight, okay? I love you." Nick pressed his lips against Jessica's and gave her a long deep kiss. He kissed her one last time before he started walking backwards towards the other guys. He gave a little wave before he turned around and jogged up to the guys.

Jessica pressed her fingers over her lips. Nick was such a sweet kisser. She couldn't believe how lucky she was. She turned around and started walking towards the exit.

That night, Mrs. Carter cornered Jessica in the kitchen.

"Jessica," Mrs. Carter called out. Jessica jumped.

"Oh, Mrs. Carter, you startled me. What can I do for you?" Jessica asked nervously.

"To get out of my house and never show your face around here again. Don't ever call here or get near here again or I'll call the police," Mrs. Carter responded simply.

"What?" Jessica said, dumbly. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. Had she heard wrong?

"I said to get the hell out of my house," Mrs. Carter repeated through clenched teeth.

Okay, so I didn't hear wrong, Jessica thought.

"But, Mrs. Carter, why-" Jessica started.

"Get your stuff and get out right now. If you're not gone in fifteen minutes, I'm gonna kick out the rest of your family as well. You're lucky I'm letting them stay." Being that they are no threat to me and it would be too much of a hassle to replace them. "And I don't want to hear another word out of your pathetic mouth. Not one single word. Now go!" Mrs. Carter said.

Tears welled up in Jessica's eyes as she ran out of the kitchen and into her room. A few minutes later, Jessica's mom entered her room.

"Jessie! Jessie, Mrs. Carter just told me the news. I can't believe she could be so cruel," Mrs. Walters said, enveloping Jessica into her arms.

"I know, but I have to comply for you guys. I don't want her to kick you guys out, too. I have to go now, Mom. She said I had to be out in fifteen minutes or you guys will be next." Jessica extricated herself from her mother's embrace and started packing.

"But where will you go?" Mrs. Walters asked, frantically.

"I don't know, Mom. I have some money saved up. I'll go to a motel tonight until I figure out what to do," Jessica answered.

"Let me go get your father and my savings. You need it more than we do," Mrs. Walters said, turning around and walking out of the room, and was back in a minute. "Here."

"Oh, Mom, I can't take your money. That's all you have!" Jessica protested.

"But you need it more than we do at the moment, Jessie. I'll tell your father and brother goodbye for you. They won't be back until late."

"Okay, Mom. Thank you." Jessica gave her mom a hug, then closed the zipper of her suitcase. She noticed how pathetic she was. All of her belongings fit into one suitcase. She shook her head.

"Oh." She remembered the cell phone. She ran to her night stand and took it out of the drawer and put it in her purse. She felt a lot better knowing that Nick would be calling her later on.

"I love you, Mom. Mrs. Carter doesn't want me to call here, so I guess we'll have to meet somewhere. I'll contact you through Nick so you can call me. Goodbye, Mom." Jessica gave her mom one last hug.

"Goodbye, Jessie. I love you too. Take care of yourself, you hear?" Mrs. Walters said.

"Yeah." Jessica kissed her mother goodbye, then grabbed her suitcase, and in a minute was outside, walking out of the estate.

Jessica settled herself into the cheap motel room bed. She shifted around uncomfortably. It was too lumpy.

She turned on the TV and tried to distract herself until Nick called.

About an hour later, the cell phone rang. She had turned on the ringer instead of the vibrator so she could put it on the desk.

"Hello?" she answered anxiously.

"Hey, baby, what's up? What's the matter, you sound weird," Nick asked, concerned.

"Your mom...Nick, your mom threw me out of the house," Jessica replied softly.

"She did what?"

"She told me to leave and never come back, and not to call either," Jessica said.

"I can't believe her! How could she do that to you? Where are you now, Jess?" Nick asked.

"In a motel downtown. I'm so scared, Nick. I've never been alone like this before," Jessica admitted.

"Oh, baby, I'm so sorry. I'll be with you as soon as possible, okay? Just remember that I'll be there in two weeks, okay? I'm gonna have to talk with my mom-"

"No! No, Nick, don't talk with your mom about me. I know that'll just make it worse. First, it won't do any good, because I'm positive she won't change her mind, and it'll damage your relationship with her," Jessica reasoned.

"But, Jess, I-"

"No, Nick, please."

"Well, okay." Nick sighed. "I'll call you in the morning to see if you're all right, okay?"

"You don't have to do that. I'll be fine, Nick," Jessia responded.

"No, you're in a strange place alone. I'll call you. I'll talk to you then, baby. I gotta go to bed because we have to wake up early," Nick said.

"Okay," Jessia replied.

"I love you, Jess."

"I love you too, Nick. Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

Jessica put the cell phone in the drawer and turned off the TV before turning out the light and going to sleep.
