Chapter 5

The next morning, Jessica woke up early. She looked at her nightstand clock, and saw that it was only 6 AM. She sighed. Then, last night's memories came rushing back, and she smiled. She was going to spend the day with Nick. With that thought, she slowly lifted into a light slumber.

"What am I going to do? I have to keep Nick and Jessica seperated, but how am I going to do that for good subtly and permanently?" Mrs. Carter fretted. She wouldn't stand for the humiliation the relationship between those two would bring. She would be a social catastrophe. She wouldn't and couldn't stand for it. She had to do something, and quick. Suddenly, she got the best idea. But of course. How hadn't she thought of it before?

Nick slammed his hand against his alarm clock, but the damned thing still wouldn't stop shrilling.

"Shit!" Nick grumbled, grabbing the alarm clock and jabbing his finger on the snooze button.

"Damned alarm clock," he muttered, trying to get back to sleep, before he noticed what time it was.

"Oh shit! I'm supposed to meet Jessica at the park in twenty minutes!" He jumped out of bed, and ran to his bathroom, jumping quickly into the shower.

Jane Carter quickly dialed the phone number, and waited patiently for someone to pick up.

"Hello?" a sleepy voice said over the other end of the phone.

"Hi, dear! It's me, Jane. Listen, can you come over this afternoon? I have an important matter to discuss with you," Jane explained, her heart beating, hoping that her plan would work.

"Uh...yeah, sure, Jane, I'll be there this afternoon. I'll talk to you then. Bye." Click.

"Well!" she said when she heard the click, a little ticked off, but pushed the feeling aside when she thought of how perfect her plan was going to be.

Jessica sat in the park where she and Nick had agreed. She had been waiting for five minutes, but still no sign of Nick. She sighed.

"What if he changed his mind about me?" she said to herself, right before she felt someone's hands cover her eyes.

"Guess who!" Nick said, teasingly. Jessica smiled.

"Let me guess. My boyfriend Mark?" she joked.

"Who's Mark?" Nick said, pretending to be mad, as he swiveled Jessica around, and enveloped her in his arms. "I missed you, Jess. I'm really glad that we're together."

"Me too," Jessica whispered, wrapping her arms around Nick. This was the most perfect day ever.
