Chapter 7

"Wow, I've been on this beach a million times but I've never spotted this place," Jessica commented as Nick led her into the small cove. Nick slowly released her hand and turned to look at her, smiling.

"Yeah, I think I'm the only one who knows about it," he said once more.

"How did you find it?" Jessica questioned curiously as she carefully sat down on the floor, Nick plopping down next to her.

"When I was little, we used to play hide and seek around here, and I just happened to stumble upon it, otherwise I don't think I would've found it either. Whenever I need to think by myself, I always come here, that's why I never told anyone about this place. Until you," he said, making her feel special and warm all over. She smiled, and scooted closer to him. He put his arm around her and slowly brought his lips down onto hers softly.

"Jess, you don't know how glad I am that we can finally be together. All these years we had to sneak to see ourselves, and when we were caught I didn't talk to you for the longest time, and now that I have you again, I don't want to let you go. Not even for my mother," he whispered softly against her lips.

"I don't know, Nick. Your mother has a lot of...power," Jessica ended lamely.

"Oh, come on, Jess. Our love is strong enough to survive anything..."

"Where is he?" Melissa asked impatiently. She had spent the day over the Carter's house, but Nick was nowhere to be found.

"I told you he went out with Brian, but they should be back pretty soon," Jane repeated for the tenth time. But she had to admit, she was getting nervous. She hoped Melissa wouldn't back out on her. This plan had to work. It had to. It was just too perfect.

"So where is Bob? I haven't seen him around," Melissa said, trying to make conversation.

"Oh, him and the rest of the kids are on vacation in Malibu for the summer. Nick didn't want to go for some odd reason, so I decided to stay with him. There's no telling what he would do alone here with us many miles away," Jane said, crossing her legs. Melissa laughed.

"Yeah, you're right. Luckily, you came up with the brilliant plan! I mean, me throwing myself all over Nick in front of that maid's face, and clearly pointing out their differences is pretty good. She'll be walking down the hall since you would have sent a maid to get her, so she would have to come by Nick's room, which I will leave the door open. I will be saying right at that second when she gets near enough 'Oh, Nick, I knew you were just playing with that little maid's feelings! It's just so terribly funny how that gullible fool fell for everything. I love you, darling!'" Melissa laughed at her acting. "And then, I'll kiss him, and she'll see that and everything will be perfect! She'll never suspect. Especially if she has insecurities about their relatioship which I'm sure she does considering their difference in social status."

"Yes, dear, you are absolutely correct! Everything will work out just marvelous!" Jane said.

Maria backed away when she heard what Mrs. Carter and that snobby Melissa Jones were going to do to poor Nick and Jessica. She sighed. But she knew she couldn't tell a soul, not even them. Because then, she knew for sure she would be out in the street with nowhere to live and no money to manage with her unborn child.

"Nick..." Jessica moaned as Nick nibbled on her neck deliciously, but she forced herself to pull away.

"What's wrong, baby?" Nick asked, his gaze searching her eyes.

"We should be heading back! We've been here for a long time," Jessica said, straightening her clothes.

"Okay, Jess. Lemme call Brian so he can meet us at the park. Then, you can go inside first, then Brian and I will follow a while later." Nick took his cell phone from his pocket and quickly dialed Brian's cell number.

Oh, God, Nick. I love you so much. I would do anything for you. But then why does something that feels so right is made out to be so wrong? This is just like an impossible love. Is that what Nick and I are in? An impossible love? Jessica shook those scary thoughts out of her mind, and concentrated on restoring her appearance.

"Let's go, babe, Brian is going to meet us there now," Nick said, standing up and brushing off his shorts. He then outstretched a hand, and Jessica grabbed it. Together, they walked out of the cove, and back into the real world.
