Chapter 21

"Hey, Jenna," Brian greeted, leaning in. Jenna jerked her head back. She took a deep breath.

"I have to talk to you, Brian."

"Uh-oh. Doesn't sound good," Brian said, jokingly.

"Um...Listen...we can't see each other anymore," she said, hurriedly.

"What?!" Brian exclaimed, his eyes widening.

"Look..." she looked down. "I can't do this to Nick anymore. I've been thinking about it, and it's not worth it," she replied.

"What? I'm not worth it, is that what you're telling me?" Brian said, his eyes filled with pain.

"No, don't take it that way. I mean, it's not worth cheating on Nick, risking he find out and we get divorced. You know I love him more than anything in this world, and we have a daughter," Jenna said, softly. Brian sighed.

"I can't believe this." He desperately tried not to let the tears overflow. "Well, if that's what you want, then fine. See you around." He started to close the door.

"Wait, don't be mad. You have to understand. If you were married, would you want an affair to break up your marriage if you loved your wife more than anything?" she asked.

"You're the only one I want to be married to, Jenna. But I guess that'll never happen. Look, I really need to be alone," Brian said.

"Okay. I'm really sorry, but...this is just the way things have to be," Jenna whispered.

"I understand. Bye."

"Bye, Brian." Jenna turned around, having both a feeling of relief and sadness.

That night, Jenna felt so happy. She felt free, somehow. She had nothing to hide. Now she only had to worry about Emily and Nick. She had learned a really invaluable lesson. Something as petty as an affair is not worth losing your husband over, especially when you see him the way she saw Nick.

Nick came home a little while later.

"Hey, babe." Jenna jumped off the couch and flew into his arms.

"Hey, hon," Nick said, surprised.

"Nick, please please please forgive me for everything. I want us to be happy. I hate it when you're sad." She decided not to really reveal it all because it was better for him.

"It's okay, Jen. It really is," Nick said, forgiving her for things unknown to him, or not sure to him. All he really wanted was to start over, no matter what happened in the past.

"Sort of like a new beginning?" Nick asked, smiling.

"Yeah...sort of," she teased. Then, they leaned in and shared the sweetest kiss they'd ever had.
