Chapter 9

Jenna entered the hotel room, fearfully. She looked at Nick who lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, his eyes crystalline, from unshed tears. He didn't move.

Jenna walked over to the bed and sat down. She sighed. She knew everything with Brian had all be a huge mistake.

"Nick...I'm sorry. I know this won't cut it, but I promise you that I will never cheat on you again, if you please give me another chance to prove myself," Jenna whispered.

Nick was seriously considering accepting her offer, because he loved her so much, but he couldn't let her get off that easy. He turned his head towards her.

"I can't believe you cheated on me, Jenna. I thought you really loved me," Nick said.

"I do! I do, Nick! I was just trying out new things is all," she said, trying to defend herself, knowing she was failing miserably.

"Oh, so that means that I can go and try out new things with other women, right?" he said, sarcastically.

"No! But please, Nick, forgive me. I promise you that I'll never do it again," Jenna said, grasping at straws.

"You don't even know if the baby is mine. If the baby is not mine, we are getting a divorce," Nick stated, knowing that wasn't what he wanted, but that was how it was going to be if the baby turned out to be Brian's. Jenna gasped.

"No, please, you can't leave me, Nick! Please!" Jenna cried.

"Jenna, I am not going to raise a child that is not mine. Especially one that is my ex-best friend's child," Nick said.

Jenna decided to deal with the friend issue later. Right now, she had more important things to talk about. "But, Nick-"

"No, Jenna," Nick interrupted, "If the baby is Brian's, we're getting a divorce and that's final. So I suggest that we go do a paternity test as soon as possible to get separated as soon as we can if necessary." Nick sighed, debating whether to tell her if he loved her or not. She definitely didn't deserve it. He stood up, and was almost out of the door, when Jenna stopped him.

"Where are you going, Nick?" Jenna asked.

"I'm going to see if they have another hotel room available. I am not going to sleep in the same room as you until all of this is straightened out. And I suggest you call a doctor while I'm gone, and make an appointment for a paternity test as soon as possible," Nick said, before leaving the room.

Jenna lay down on the bed, starting to cry.

"I can't lose you, Nick. I can't," she cried.
