Chapter 4

The night before Nick had to leave for tour, Carolyn and Nick went to the park, and lay down in front of the lake. Carolyn had brought a blanket so they could lie down.

The park was deserted, even though it was only ten. Carolyn spread out the blanket on the grass, and Nick and her lay down. They lay there quiet for a few minutes.

"Nick...I'm gonna miss you so much," Carrie whispered, running her fingers up and down his chest, her head resting on his shoulder.

"I'm gonna miss you a lot too, baby. Just don't go meeting up with any guys, okay?" he joked.

"Of course I won't, Nick! I love you and only you," she promised.

"Good. You'll see, three months will go buy before you even know it," Nick assured.

"I don't think so, Nick. It's gonna be the longest three months of my life," she replied.

"But you're still gonna come visit me, aren't you?" he inquired.

"Well...I'm not sure anymore, Nick. My boss just piled on all this extra work that I have to do, and I don't think I'll have time to go visit you. Hopefully, I could fly up to see you on a Friday afternoon and come back Sunday afternoon, but it all depends on how much I have to do," she said, reluctantly.

"Oh." He sounded very disappointed.

"I'm sorry," she murmured into his neck, planting a small kiss. He sighed.

"No, hun, it's okay." He looked at his watch, and sat up, bringing Carrie along with him.

"We should get going, I gotta wake up really early tomorrow," he said.

"So soon?" she protested, wrapping her arms around his waist. She didn't want to let him go. But she had no choice.

"Come on, babe." He stood up and pulled her to her feet. She bent down and grabbed the blanket, folding it into two. They slowly walked back to Nick's car, and got in.

While Nick drove, it was silent. They reached her house without speaking the entire ride.

"I love you, Carrie. Don't ever forget that, okay?" He leaned over and pulled her into his arms, hugging her tightly. She felt tears burning at the back of her eyes. She did everything to suppress them from coming out.

"I love you, too, Nick." She pulled back and they started kissing, running their hands over each other.

Finally, Carrie pulled back. She knew she would start crying if she didn't get out of the car as soon as possible.

"Call me tomorrow morning before you leave, okay?" she whispered.

"Okay, babe."

"Bye, Nick."

"Bye, Carrie. I love you."

"I love you too," she replied. With that, she got out of the car, and ran up the front steps and into her house, thinking the sooner she left him, the sooner he'd be back.
