Chapter 6

The phone was ringing as soon as Carrie and her mom entered the house. Carrie quickly dropped the bags in the kitchen and grabbed the phone.

"Hello?" she answered.

"Hey, Carrie!" Nick's deep voice greeted.

"Oh, hey Nick. How was your trip?" Carrie asked, settling down on one of the kitchen chairs. She watched her mother start to put away the groceries.

"It was all right, nothing much happened," Nick replied. "What about you, what did you do today?"

"Umm..." Suddenly, Carrie didn't want to tell him about Danny. It's not like they were doing anything wrong, but she didn't want to tell Nick.

"I just came back from the grocery store with my mom," Carrie replied.

"Oh, okay. Listen, I'm really beat. I just wanted to call you to tell you that I love you and I miss you a lot, Car," Nick said softly.

"I miss you, too, Nick," Carrie replied.

"I'll call you sometime tomorrow when I'm free, okay?"

"Sure. Have a good night," she said.

"You too, babe. Goodnight."

"Night." Carrie hung up the phone and sighed.

"Hey, what's going on, Carrie?" her mother asked, looking up from the refrigerator.

"Sheesh, Mom, you don't have to make it so obvious that you were eavesdropping," Carrie replied, shaking her head.

"I wasn't eavesdropping! You were right there in front of me, how am I not supposed to hear?" her mother stated, defensively. Carrie laughed.

"It's okay, Mom. I forgot to tell you that Nick went back on tour yesterday...Well, I didn't really forget, I was just too depressed to talk about it to anyone," Carrie said, standing up, and helping her mother put away the remaining groceries.

"Oh that's too bad. How long will he be gone?" her mother inquired.

"Three months," Carrie replied. "I'll be upstairs if you need me." Carrie went up to her room, and turned on the radio. Then, she lay down on the bed, and thought about Nick.

Rrrrrrriiiiinnnnng!!

Carrie jerked awake. The phone was ringing. She jumped off the bed and ran downstairs.

"Hello?" she answered. She looked at the clock. She had slept for two hours. It was already 9:45.

"Hey, Car, what's up?" Danny's rich voice came through the receiver. Carrie smiled.

"Oh, hey, Danny. Nothing much's going on. I was just sleeping," she accused, teasingly.

"Oh, did I wake you up? I'm sorry, Car." Danny laughed.

"So what's up?" Carrie asked.

"Oh...nothing. I just wanted to hear your beautiful voice," Danny said, half teasing.

"Oh, puh-lease, Dan." Carrie rolled her eyes.

"No, I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight as well as Saturday night? I'm really bored and have nothing better to do," he said.

"Well...It's kind of late, Dan..." Carrie said, doubtfully.

"I'll have you back before twelve, I promise," he persuaded.

"Well, okay. Give me ten minutes to get ready."

"Great. See you soon."

"Okay, bubbye." Carrie hung up, then went back upstairs to get dressed.
