Chapter 2

"Nick, wake up!" Brian urged, shaking Nick. Nick groaned.

"What the hell, Bri!" Nick mumbled, trying to go back to sleep.

"Wake up, there's an urgent meeting! Come on, get your ass of that bed! Nick! Fine, have it your way." Brian walked into the bathroom, and grabbed a towel. He turned on the water and drenched the towel. He shut off the water, and walked back to Nick's room. He wrung out the towel on Nick's face.

"What the hell is your problem, Brian? Can't a guy get some damn sleep around here?! Damn you!" Nick grumbled, fully irritated.

"If you'd stop cursing me out, I'd tell you that we have a very urgent and important meeting that's gonna start in about fifteen minutes. Just thought you should know," Brian said angrily. He stalked out of the room, and slammed the door behind him. Nick sighed heavily, and put his face in his hands. His life was so messed up right now, he didn't know which way was up. And that's all he could do. Try to go up. But what he was apparently doing was digging himself deeper in the dirt, making it harder and harder to get out.

Nick stood up. He opened his door, and walked into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him. He stripped, and entered the shower, putting it on full blast of cold water. He shivered, but didn't relent.

Twenty minutes later, he was out of the shower, and dressed. He combed back his wet hair, and walked out into the living room, where Brian and Leighanne were sitting.

"Um...hey, Bri. I'm sorry about blowing up on you, but you know how it is early in the morning for me," Nick apologized, looking down at the floor.

"Yeah, okay, Nick. Sorry for dumping water on ya," Brian said, chuckling. "Anyway, we better get going. We're gonna be late." Brian and Leighanne stood up, and Nick followed them out the door, and into Kevin's hotel suite, where everyone had agreed to meet. The meeting started a little while later.

"Well, guys, I have bad news and good news. The bad news is that the assistant tour manager quit on me last night. I can't go on without an assistant tour manager because it's too much work for me alone," Deborah Rogan, the tour manager, explained. "I called up my neice, Kimberly, who lives in the next city we're gonna be in. She lives in Tampa Bay. She's the manager for a store down there even though she's only 20. I begged and pleaded, and she finally agreed to help me out. I rubbed into her all the times I had helped her out. That never fails. So anyway, she'll be joining us tomorrow. She's pretty young to be a manager, but her dad, my brother, used to be the manager, and he had a heart attack, so she replaced him, since she had been his assistant manager. So she's qualified for the job. I just wanted to see what you guys thought about it," Debbie finished.

"Well, I personally think that's a good idea. It's great that your neice agreed or we would be in deep shi-" Kevin started.

"Kevin!" Kristin, Kevin's wife, exclaimed.

"Sorry, baby, didn't mean to curse," Kevin apoligized. "We're in deep crap." He looked at the other guys and rolled his eyes. They all smiled.

"Yeah. She really is a nice girl. I hope you guys get along with her. She can be...difficult sometimes if you get on her bad side. But otherwise she's extremely friendly. You'd never know she had a bad side...well, not necessarily bad, but you get the point," Debbie said. "Well, guys, I won't keep you much longer, I know you have a busy schedule today. I'll see you guys later." Debbie exited the room.

"Well, well, well. Fresh meat," AJ said, rubbing his hands. The guys laughed.

"AJ, get off it!" Howie said, shaking his head. They all stood up.

"Well, I see you guys at sound check," Nick mumbled, then exited the room.

"What's up with him?" Kevin asked.

"Haven't you noticed he's been like this since he broke up with Gina, like, what, six months ago? I mean, I know he's over her and all, but I think his pride suffered alot, what with Gina humiliating him in front of dozens of people at the club that night," Brian said, sadly.

"He'll snap out of it sooner or later," AJ said confidently.

"No, bro. You don't know. You don't know," Brian whispered. "Come on, Leigh, let's go," Brian said, reaching out for his wife's hand.

Nick let himself into the suite, and went straight to his room. He fell into his bed, and lay there, thinking about the girl who was coming tomorrow. Maybe he could get with her. He'd be done with her in a few days, then AJ could have her.

The next day, they parted from the hotel and mounted the tour bus, throwing their luggage on their bunks. Nick sat on his bunk, flipping through and old comic book, while the other guys sat in the tiny living room, watching a ball game. Kristin and Leighanne were sitting in the kitchen, talking. Nick closed his comic book, and started thinking about the new girl. He remembered that the old assistant manager, Rudy, used to bunk in this bus, until he quit last night. That meant that the new girl was probably going to bunk with them when they were on the road. Nick smiled. That way it would be faster to persuade her to be his.

They reached Tampa Bay a while later. They were supposed to meet Kimberly Rogan at the front of the hotel they were staying at.

They reached the hotel, and everyone piled out. Debbie got out of the bus that was behind them. She scanned the front of the hotel, and saw Kimberly. She smiled, and started to run towards her niece.

"Kimberly!" she cried, running into Kimberly's arms. "It's so good to see you! It's been a long time," Debbie said, pulling back. Kimberly smiled.

"Yeah, Aunt Deb. It's been a while. So, aren't you gonna introduce me to your friends over there? They look...curious," Kimberly said, amused.

"Okay, come on. They really are very nice," Debbie said, pulling her towards the guys. They approached they guys and stopped two feet away from them.

"Hey, guys, this is my neice, Kimberly Rogan, Kim, this is Kevin, Brian, Howie, AJ, Nick, Kevin's wife, Kristin, and Brian's wife, Leighanne," Debbie introduced.

"Hey, guys," Kim greeted, waving slightly. Her gaze lingered on Nick, who was staring at her weird.

Wow, that must be the hottest girl I've ever laid my eyes on, Nick thought.
