Chapter 4

"Hey, Lorelei!" Nick greeted, falling into step with Lorelei. Lorelei looked over at him and smiled.

"Oh, hey, Nick. What's up?" she asked.Oh, he looks sooo hot today, she thought.

"Oh, nothing much. Just glad the weekend's almost here," Nick replied.

"Yeah, me too," Lorelei said.

"So...uh...what are you doing this weekend?" Nick asked. He wanted to see if she would tell him about John.

"Well...I have a date with your roommate. I think tomorrow, I'm not sure. He's gonna call me today," Lorelei replied, sneaking a peek at Nick, then smiled. He looked a little jealous.

"Oh, yeah, he told me about it. Listen, do you wanna hang out sometime? I know I just met you yesterday, and that's why I want us to be, uh, friends," Nick said.

"Sure, Nick, that would be great. So, listen, I'll talk to you later, I gotta get to class, okay?" Lorelei said.

"Sure. See ya later." Nick turned and headed towards his first class.

Three months later...

"Hey, Lorelei," John greeted.

"Hey, sweetie, what's up?" Lorelei reached up and planted a kiss on John's cheek. Although they had gone out several times in the last three months, she still considered him a close friend. Most of the time they had gone out with Nick as well. John thought they were a little bit more than friends, and that they were getting to the part where he wanted to be.

"Nothing much. I was going to go to the library to get some books I need for research," John responded.

"Oh, really? Can I hang with you? I really don't have nothing to do. I was about to go to the lounge to watch some TV," Lorelei said.

"Sure," John said, smiling.

"Great."

They walked towards the library, and bumped into Nick.

"Hey guys, where are you headed?" Nick asked, his cheeks red from weariness, and his hair wet from the shower he had taken. He had been at basketball practice.

"To the library. I'm accompaning Johnny because has to get some books for some research and I didn't have anything els to do," Lorelei replied, her heart starting to beat. She still thought he was the hottest guy on this planet.

"Can I go with you guys? I don't have anything to do either," Nick said.

"Uh...sure, Nick," John replied reluctantly. Neither noticed his hesitation. John was kind of scared that Lorelei was going to fall for Nick because of his good looks and great personality.

"Okay, great," Nick replied. Now the three of them headed towards the library.

When John had gone off to find the books he needed, Nick and Lorelei waited for him at a table.

"Ugh...I think I should be starting that research paper, too. I have one for Psychology class," Lorelei said.

"I'm glad I don't have to do one right now. Researching really gives me a headache," Nick replied. "So...Lori...what are you doing this weekend? I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with me. I was thinking of going to the movies, and I don't wanna go alone."

"Sure, Nick, that would be great," Lorelei responded, butterflies in her stomach. He had finally asked her out. "What about Johnny?"

"Oh...do you want him to come with us?" Nick asked.

"Oh, it doesn't really matter," she replied. Even though she had feelings for Nick, she was thinking of agreeing to be John's girlfriend if he asked her. She really liked him a lot, and he was really sweet and cute. But...he didn't make her feel like Nick did just by looking at her with those beautiful blue eyes. But she knew that Nick probably just wanted to hang out with her as friends, because she knew he wouldn't want to betray his friend.

"Okay. I was thinking just us too," Nick said softly.

"Sure, Nick, that's no problem."

"But...I would like to keep us going out this weekend a secret because I don't want him to get the wrong impression, you know what I mean?" Nick said, looking down at his hands.

"Yeah, I know. I won't tell him."

John returned with a pile of books and laid them on the table.

"Sheesh. I really am getting sick of research papers. There used to be a time when I really didn't mind doing them, but now..." John said, sitting down between Nick and Lorelei.

"I always do," Lorelei said. "Anyway, listen, guys, I'll catch you guys later. I have to get to work."

"Really? That sucks. I'll call you later, okay?" John said.

"Sure." Lorelei leaned over and kissed John on the cheek. "Later, guys." Lorelei stood up, and walked out of the library, both Nick and John staring after her.

"Man, she's so beautiful," John said turning back.

"Yeah," Nick agreed.

"I'm thinking about asking her to be my girlfriend. What do you think?" John asked, opening one of the books on the table. Nick almost choked.

"Uh...I think that's a good idea. I think she really likes you," Nick replied.

"That's awesome. Now, I just need a little bit of courage to go up to her and ask her. Do you think she'll agree?"

"Sure, man," Nick replied, smiling, but inside he was churning with jealousy.
