Chapter 10

"You still love Josh?" Nick questioned, his happiness faltering.

"Yeah, Nick. I mean, you can't just stop loving someone from night to day, can you? Well, there are a few circumstances that would allow that but none of them have occurred to me. I love him and I love you. That makes me a terrible person," Crystal said, tears running down her cheeks.

"But you're still coming with me, right?" Nick asked. He put on his pants and sat back down on the bed. She put on her bra and panties too.

"Yeah, Nick, I think that would be the best thing to do. Well...I don't know, Nick! I'm so confused right now, it's not even funny. I actually don't know if I'm going with you. I have to think things through before I make any sort of drastic decision," she replied.

"But you told me your happiness was more important than Josh," he protested.

"I know that, but I've been thinking about it, Nick, and I need more time. I was just talking out of impulse because of what my dad said to me today. I just don't want to put up with it anymore," she said.

"You don't have to, Crys. I told you to come with me. I'm still leaving this place even if you don't come with me because I surely can't stand my family anymore, my dad especially," Nick responded. Crystal put her arms around Nick's neck. She hadn't even been thinking about him. How selfish.

"I'm sorry, Nick. I know that. But you can't leave me here alone!" she cried.

"You wouldn't be alone, Crystal. You'd have Josh and Jason, and your other friends," Nick reasoned.

"No, Nick. You don't understand what I mean by alone. I won't have anyone to talk to, or relate my problems with. You're the only person I fully trust. You know everything about me. Things that no one else would have ever dreamed of. Even my parents. I need you, Nick," she whispered into his neck.

"I need you too, Crystal. But I can't stay here much longer. I won't be able to stand it. But I will wait for you to give me an answer. If you decide not to go with me, I'm leaving the next day, 'cause all that's keeping me back from leaving right now is you. Now, if you decide to come with me, I'll wait until you turn eighteen and graduate from high school. I don't really care if I graduate from school, because my dad said I can't go to college. He says we don't have the money. But I think it's deeper than that. I think that he doesn't want me to be better than him, since he never went to college," Nick said.

"I know, Nick. I'm so sorry. But I was planning on going to college," she said.

"I know. You can go to college wherever we go. Just ask the school for your transcripts," Nick suggested. She nodded.

"Yeah, that's a good idea. So, um, Nick, I think I'm gonna go talk to Josh now. I told him earlier that I couldn't see him today because of my face, but I need to talk to him as soon as possible. I'll just tell him that I fell down the stairs or something," she said.

"Okay, Crys. So, I'll see you tomorrow then, okay? Let me know what Josh says," Nick said, standing up.

"No, Nick! Wait for me here! I won't be gone too long, so you can watch TV or something," she said. She was afraid of staying here by herself. "I'll sneak out the window."

"Okay, that sounds good," Nick agreed. He sat back down, and she stood up and walked to the window. Then she slowly climbed down the trellis. She sneaked around the back of the house and into Josh's backyard. She ran around to the front and knocked on the door anxiously. No one opened. She tried the doorknob, and was surprised to find it unlocked. She hesitantly entered the house. She knew his parents were out because their cars weren't in the garage. She decided to surprise him. She tiptoed up the stairs and headed in the direction of his room. Just then she heard strange noises coming from his room. She suspiciously walked up to his door and flung it open. What she saw before her eyes shocked the hell out of her. Her jaw dropped.
