Chapter 6

A while later, she emerged from her bathroom. She walked up to her dresser, and picked out a pair of panties. Then she grabbed an oversized shirt from her closet, and slipped into it. She walked slowly and painfully to her bed, and slid into it, covering herself with the blanket. Just then, she started to cry again, the sobs racking her body, and she didn't stop until a long while later when she couldn't fight the sleep any more.

"Nick, get out of bed, you lazy idiot! You can't be in there all day!" Bob Carter shouted through Nick's locked bedroom door. Nick stirred, and slowly opened his eyes.

"Nick!" Bob said again.

"Coming!" Nick replied, getting out of bed, and going to open the bedroom door. He swung it open, and saw his father fully dressed. "Yeah?"

"It's time for breakfast. You have exactly one minute to be down there or I'll break your neck," Bob said before stomping off down the stairs.

Nick sighed, and ran into the bathroom, quickly brushing his teeth and splashing some cold water on his face. When he walked into the kitchen, he realized that his father wasn't there. Or his Mom or his sisters. Confused, he sat down at the table next to Aaron.

"Hey, Nick!" he said, happily eating his pancakes.

"Hey, Aaron. Where's Dad?" Nick questioned, picking up his fork.

"Oh, he said he had some sort of meeting at work or something," Aaron explained.

Nick was even more confused. "But it's Saturday," Nick replied, taking a bite of his pancake.

"I know, but he said it was some important stuff."

"What about Mom and the girls?"

"They went to the mall to buy some stuff," Aaron informed. Nick nodded and went back to his breakfast.

When Nick finished his breakfast, he went into the living room, and picked up the phone. He really wanted to talk to Crystal. He dialed her private line in her room.

Crystal woke up to the sound of her phone ringing. She groaned, but the shrilling sound of the ringing was worsening the headache she already had. She picked up the phone.

"Hello?" she mumbled.

"Hi, Crys! What's up?" Nick's voice floated through the phone line. Somehow, Crystal felt more safe and comfortable right now talking to Nick. Since he was her best friend, she decided to tell him everything.

"Um...I'm not so good, Nick. My father was waiting for me when I got home last night," she whispered.

"Oh, shit! What happened? What did he say?" Nick said, worriedly. He knew how Eric could get. Crystal had told him in numerous occasions that he had slapped her hard in the face.

"He beat me up, Nick. I feel terrible."

"He what?" Nick said incredulously.

"Yeah," she said softly.

"Oh, God, Cryssy, I'm so sorry! I'm going over there," Nick stated, furious.

"No! Nick, he'd kill you! I don't want to get into any more trouble," she whined.

"It's okay, Crys, I'll climb through your window. No one will know, okay? I'll there soon."

"Okay, Nick." She hung up the phone, and sighed. She made herself stand up and take a quick shower before Nick came.
