With my third child I determined that if babies were supposed to be fed with cold, uncaring, manmade plastic we would have been born with plastic breasts! I nursed my third child until she weaned herself. At first I would go into a bathroom stall until another breastfeeding mom said to me, "Would you want to eat dinner in the bathroom?" That did it for me. Now I nurse anywhere, anytime. Men have no problem with wet t-shirt contests and t-back bikinis. But just let them see a breastfeeding mother.
Recently, I experienced something that will be treasured in my heart always. While nursing my infant son, he pulled off the breast and looked at me. The look on his face was the true definition of "adoration". If breastfeeding causes my son to look at me that way, I will nurse as long as needed. This is really the one true unselfish thing we can do for our children.
