The 12th Month
Happy Birthday!!!

Cathy & Connie's Journal

December 1997

Connie turned 1 year old this month. Wow, what a month. With turning one, we have encountered the question, "You have started weaning her, right". Well, the answer is, NO I HAVEN'T STARTED TO WEAN HER. It just doesn't seem right for us to wean right now. And I do mean to us. I still enjoy nursing her, and she still enjoys nursing. How long do I plan nursing? I don't know. I have been thinking about it a lot. I know I don't want to nursing her passed 2 1/2 years. At least that what I'm thinking now.

I've been thinking so much about weaning because my boys self weaned at 13 months. But Connie, will still nurse 4 or 5 times a day. And on days when she nurses less then four times, she is a very very fussy baby. She still seems to need to nurse, not for the food, but more for the closeness to mommy. I still love nursing for now. I'm so glad the AAP, added the words, At least one year, to their breastfeeding recommendations. I've been using it a lot lately, when friends and family ask, when I plan to wean.

Breastmilk is far from the only food that Connie eats. This girl is a meat eater. She likes beef the best, but hasn't turned down, turkey, ham, chicken, or pork. She really doesn't care for veggies. (I don't count french fries as veggies.) So, this is something we will have to work on. We eat a lot of fruit to make up for the lack of veggies. Her favorite drink is Pepsi. (Well, after mommy's milk.) And we have to get her, her own happy meal at McDonald's now. She eats most of the hamburger, eats all of the fries, and drinks all of the Coke. I wonder were in her 21 pound body, she puts it all.

That's all I have for this Month. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
