Laura & Jodie's Journal December 1997 This month Jodie is now nineteen months old. Not very many changes as far as her breastfeeding needs and demands. For me, I have stopped pumping when I am at work. This was kind of sad as I am retiring my trusty Medela double pump for good. I noticed that my supply had dwindled somewhat and I was no longer experiencing engorgement while at work so decided to stop. Jodie seems to be fine with table foods and cows' milk when I am away from her. Fortunately, it is only one to two days a week. A typical day for Jodie starts off with some mommy milk early in the morning followed by some fruit and cereal. She is quite independent feeding herself her oatmeal and even manages to get most of it in her mouth rather than her hair. :) She has tried eggs but being the creature of habit that she is as most toddlers are, oatmeal and fruit everyday is just fine. A mid-morning snack follows and either mommy milk or cows' milk in a cup. I let her decide and it all depends on how busy she is at play. Lunch comes after we take her two older sisters to pre-school and kindergarten and then a nap. After nap comes one of her longer nursing sessions. Dinner is her favorite meal and she does eat rather hearty for a tiny little girl. Sometimes she wants an after dinner snack of mommy milk but usually she can wait for a bedtime nursing. She still wakes around midnight for a quick snack but quickly falls back to sleep. Being the holiday season and being do typically busy as our family is I have not noticed a change in my milk supply or her feedings but I have noticed myself feeling quite tired and I did fall to the flu that is working its way through our household. Since hindsight is always twenty-twenty, I would suggest to all the nursing mommies out there to take it easy; allow yourself some time everyday where you can put your feet up and enjoy a relaxing cup of tea, keep up your fluid intake and hug your babies! :) Merry Christams and Happy New Year to you all!
