Nick woke up to a baby crying. Silently he rolled over and looked at Cassie.. She was fast asleep, he smiled and crawled out of bed and quietly made his way to the nursery. On his way there, he stopped and checked on Devon, The baby grew louder. Carefully Nick closed Devon's bed room door and tiptoed into Shawn's room. As gently as he could he lifted the precious little boy into his arms. He rocked hima little "There all better," he whispered clicking on the dolphin lamp next to an old wooden rocking chair. He sat down carefully, Nick smiled and noticed that shawn had his smile and eyes, but he had Cassie's nose and chin. He kissed the little button nose.
"You know what Shawn, " he said leaning back. "I was never the type to jump into a marriage, in fact I never planned to settle down," Nick pulled the baby's thumb out of his mouth and replaced it with a green binky. "Anyway, When I saw Cassie again, I'd thought she'd be like all the other crazed fans, who only wanted me for sex money and fame, Speaking of which, your not aloud to have sex until your married, or at least love the person. I made that mistake. Her name was Danielle, she had jet black hair and green eyes," he closed his eyes to remember. "She pretended to love me for me, she was so sweet at first. We dated for 2 years, on our 2 year annivarsy I gave her a record contract and my virginity. I didn't know what to do , I was confused , she took me to my hotel room, I was paralyzed, I didn't speak, Couldn't speak, I just followed. I did absoulutly nothing when she took off my shirt, then my pants and so on. I just let her run her hands all over my bare body," he looked down at the baby. Shawn stared up at him lovingly. "I wish you could understand. But they say the best listeners are babies," he shrugged and pulleda yellow quilt over them both. he took a breath and continued.
"The next morning I woke up to find myself alone, she left, took everything with her, the contact, my heart... my shirt, and my most prized possesion, my virginity. I was only 14 then, so that was my first impression, to hurt and leave. So that's what I did . I had sex with them one night, left before morning. Never called or left a note. That was my plan to do with Cassie, but I couldn't, something inside me told me to leave a note, tell her I'd be back. And funny thing was I was looking forward to coming back. I drove as fast as I could, I was confused, mixed up, I didn't know how to feel, Then the rain started, I made a sharp turn and lost control of the car, an on coming pick up truck hit my passenger door. Luckly I was unharmed, but when I looked up, another car had lost control and had crashed into me head on, my air bag failed," he touched the bruise on his forehead. "That's all I remember of the accident, the next thing I remember was waking up and seeing mom's beautiful face. I shouldn't have said the things I said. She didn't deserve them. I was just afraid, that when I got to attached to you and mommy that she would leave me, taking you with her, so I wanted to know right then and there, if it was real..."
Nick looked down, Shawn was sleeping peacfully.
Nick stood up and placed him in the crib, he pulled the yellow , green and blue , patched quilt up to his waist. Emotion overtook Nick , he slumped to the floor.
Cassie was standing outside the door the entire time, whe she heard him crying she walked in, and said nothing just kneeled infrom of him, wrapped her arms around him and let him bury his face into her stomach.
Nick's face was on her stomach, on the soft silk fabric of her nighty. "I love you," she whispered.
Nick fell silent "You do?" he asked.
She smiled. "I do," one look in her brown eyes was all he needed. He stood up and carried her to their room. As gentle as he could be he laid ontop of her.
"I want you right now and always," he whispered kissing her neck. "You won't leave this time? You'll be there when I wake up?" she asked brushing a piece of blonde hair away from his eyes.
"Always and forever,"
he whispered.
