Chapter Five
I Quit

"And CUT!".

Sarah walked off set and drank the rest of her Evian water. It was a hot day in Hollywood.

"Get me another!" she snapped at one of the set workers.

"Yes Sarah," she replied, scurrying off to fetch her one.

Sarah loved being a movie star. She had made friends with the other cast members and she bossed all the crew around, often throwing tantrums if she didn't get her own way. She had gotten a lot of attention, being the leading role in the movie, but with Nick there she would get more. But he hadn't finished the tour yet.

Sarah's cell phone went off. "Nick," she guessed before answering. He was missing her like crazy and after his fallout with the other guys he had no one to talk to, so he called her several times a day.

"Five more days," he said happily when she answered. "Then I can be with you again,".

"Oh, that's great," Sarah said, not meaning it. She liked being able to flirt with the other guys around her as much as she liked.

But with him on the set I would get way more attention, she thought. "Nick can't you come sooner?" she asked. If he was there, Nick could fix her more TV interviews and promotions.

"Sorry, I can't," he replied sadly. "But as soon as the last show is over, I'll fly back from Canada and come straight to you. So how's filming today?".

Sarah walked into her personal dressing room and sat herself on a couch. "Oh, it's OK. I just finished a scene set in my house when my date picks me up to go out. Later we go on location to the beach for the date scenes....".

The set worker peeped her head around the door shyly and held out the new bottle of Evian. "I have it for you Miss Hunter," she said quietly.

"Bring it here!" Sarah shouted.

The girl handed the bottle to Sarah quickly and rushed off.

"What was that?" Nick asked.

"Oh, this idiotic little girl who works on set just handed me my water. It took her too long, I'm dying of thirst here!".

"Are you OK? You're not getting dehydration are you baby?".

"Oh, no I don't think so. But I don't feel too good. I think that's cuz I miss you... Please come sooner, I'd love for you to be here tomorrow,".

"I can't baby. But in five days I'll be with you, for a couple of weeks...".

"Couple of weeks!?".

"Yeah, we have to go start recording the album then,".

"Gosh, that band make you work too hard and don't give you any time off. How do you think I feel?! I wish you'd just quit,".

"I can't. But if I could I would,".

Sarah was bored with talking to him. "I have to go, talk to ya later," she said quickly.

"OK, later. Love you,".

Sarah hung up and went back on set.

"Sarah love, we start filming again in a few minutes," the director said to her with a smile. "Are you OK with this next scene? It's when you slap Taylor on the way out of the door,".

Sarah nodded. "Yeah, I'll be fine, I rehearsed it well,". She smiled slyly, thinking of the times she had slapped Nick.

Sarah was approached by Amanda, the actress who played her best friend in the movie. Since filming started they had become good friends in real life too. "Sarah, you gotta check this out!" she said, pulling Sarah into another room.

They saw two of the cast members kissing behind a couch. Sarah laughed. "Is that rehearsing their scene or real feelings?!".

Amanda giggled. "Real feelings I'd say. I always thought Catherine had a bit of a crush on Andy,".

The girls got on set and filming continued. But they were soon interrupted by a TV crew arriving.

The director welcomed them and they discussed having some interviews. "OK, we'll have individual interviews with Sarah, Taylor, Amanda, Andy and Will,".

Sarah smiled. "My first interview," she said quietly, feeling excited. "Make up!" she yelled.

Her make up artist rushed over with power and a brush to perfect her complexion for the interview.

"Where's my shoes?" she shouted, looking down at her bare feet. She wanted to wear her new designer kitten heels for the interview.

No-one responded.

"You girl!" she cried at the set worker who had given her the water earlier, who was called Lucinda. "Go fetch my shoes,".

Lucinda found them and handed them to Sarah.

Sarah slipped them on without a word of thanks.

Lucinda sighed and walked over to her brother Stuart, who also worked on the set. "Sarah think's she's all that," she said shaking her head.

Stuart put an arm around her. "Don't let her upset you,".

"It's not so much what she says to me that upsets me," she replied. "It's how she treats Nick. I heard all about how she hurts him and uses him and now I've seen her for myself I know that it must be all true,".

"Cheer up Lu, he'll be on the set next week, you'll get to meet him!".

Lucinda smiled. "That's a point, Stu! Gosh, I've wanted to meet Nick for years, this'll be a dream come true! But he'll be all over Sarah,".

"Maybe you can talk some sense into him," Stuart suggested.

"Like he'd listen to me!" Lucinda said sadly. "I'd be too shy to say anything,".

Stuart felt sorry for his sister. He knew she liked Nick a lot and really cared about him but he knew how shy she was. "I'll get him talking to you," Stuart suggested kindly.

Sarah meanwhile was in her interview. The cameras were not rolling yet as she was talking with the interviewer first.

"We thought Nick would be on set with you, we wanted to interview him too," the interviewing guy said. "Maybe we should reschedule the interview for when he arrives,".

Sarah would have that. She wanted the limelight now! "He won't be here for five days yet. Anyways, this is me in the movie, not my boyfriend. So get on with it,".

The guy didn't protest, he was a little scared of Sarah. "OK, fine,".

The cameras started and the guy started asking questions. "So how do you feel about getting the leading role in this movie as your first acting job?" he asked.

Sarah gave the camera her sweetest smile. "I'm so thrilled! Most girls have to work their way up but my endless acting talents spoke for themselves in my audition and here I am,". As she spoke she highered her voice to sound more innocent and sweet. Her normal voice was much lower and harsh.

"So Sarah, tell us who your famous boyfriend is,".

Sarah blushed. "Oh, he might get embarrassed!" she giggled.

"Please?".

"OK. Well I'll give y'all a clue. He's in a hugely famous band,".

The interview told the camera that it was Nick. "Don't worry girlies, I look after him well!" she lied, laughing.

The interview went on for about an hour. "We'll put together the best parts for a five minute interview for tonight's show," the guy told her. "Well done, you're a natural for the camera,".

Sarah smiled. "Oh thank you!".

The smile remained on her face for the rest of the day. She couldn't wait to appear on TV!

***

Nick sat in his dressing room watching Sarah on TV. He grinned when he saw her on screen, he felt so proud to see her on there. However, it made him miss her even more.

He had been thinking about what she had said about quitting the band. He was starting to think seriously about it. He was sick of the tough schedule and even more sick of spending all his time with the other guys.

"Come on, time to go onstage!" someone yelled from outside his room.

Nick looked at the photo of Sarah which lay on his dresser. He couldn't bare being apart from her. Without thinking, he got his cell phone out and called his agent. "Book me a flight to Hollywood for tonight after the show," he said then hung up.

He was going to leave the tour early to be with Sarah.

He joined the guys backstage and got strapped into his harness. He didn't say a word to the others. He longed to gloat about not having to see them when he left that night be decided that if he let on that he was about to leave then they'd protest and not let him go.

After the show, a guy came backstage and approached Nick. "Your car is waiting," he said, then left.

The guys looked at Nick, puzzled.

"What car?" Brian asked.

"I'm leaving," Nick said, picking up his bags. "Back to Hollywood to be with Sarah,".

"WHAT?!" AJ exploded. "You can't! We still have three more shows! You can't just leave like that,".

"Yes I can," Nick said, walking to the door.

"So that's it?" Howie said. "You're going for good? Quitting?".

"I never thought it would come to this," Brian muttered sadly. "Nick, please don't go,".

Nick stopped in his tracks, realizing what he was doing. Leaving the tour was a pretty big thing to do, if he went through with it then his days with the band would be over, he couldn't go back. He nodded slowly. "Yes, this is it. I don't want to be in the band any more,".

Brian's heart sank when he heard those words. He sat down and put his head in his hands.

"Nick!" Kevin cried. "That's very irresponsible of you. You should think it over before you just get up and leave,".

"I have thought it over," he said, tears forming in his eyes. "I made up my mind to leave,".

"This is all because of Sarah!" AJ accused. "She put you up to this!".

"She suggested it," Nick admitted.

"See!" AJ exclaimed. "That bitch is nothing but trouble. You chose her over us, you must be dumber than I thought,".

"I'm not dumb!" Nick whined.

"Hell yeah, of course you are! You let that little witch fool you every time,".

"Shut your freaking mouth! I'm glad to be quitting cuz I'll never see your ugly face again,".

Brian covered his ears, he hated hearing them exchange harsh words. "This is the end, Nick's breaking up the whole group..." he said to himself, his worst nightmare coming true.

"So that's it?" Howie said in disbelief. "Nick I can't believe you're doing this,".

"Well I am. Bye guys," he said, walking out of the doors.

The guys sat down, trying to take in what had happened. Brian stood up and walked outside to see Nick getting into the car. "Bye Nick," he said with tears in his eyes. "Farewell,".

Nick turned to Brian and looked at him. He looked so hurt. "Bye," he uttered, trying to stop himself from crying. He then sat down in the car and told the driver to drive to the airport.

Brian rejoined the guys. "What are we gonna do?" Kevin said. "WE can't break up over this,".

"We'll go on as four," Brian said. "And we'll ask Nick back once he's calmed down, maybe he'll reconsider his decision,".

Brian's words made sense. They agreed on this and decided not to tell the public the details of the fallout. They didn't want Nick to get bad press over it.

"I can't believe this is happening," AJ said. "After all the years we were together,".

They sat in silence, still shocked.

"I didn't think things could get worse, when he took her back," Brian said quietly. "But they have. Much worse,".
