"Guys, this is my son, Hunter," Nick introduced. All the guys started laughing at him, "I'm not joking," he said seriously. All the guys got silent.
"Hi, I'm Hunter," he introduced himself happily.
"When'd you find out you were a dad?" AJ asked.
"Today," he shrugged, "I was shopping at the grocery
store and ran into one of my old well you know friends and it
turned out the protection wasn't so good and here he is,"
Nick explained.
"Well hey there Hunter, I'm your Uncle Howie," he said
taking him from
Nick and playing with him.
"Nick! What did you do?" Brian asked shocked pulling
him away.
"Do you really need to know the process?" he laughed.
"He looks like you," AJ came over, "I'm proud of
you. Taking him and all," AJ said staring at Hunter.
"I'm marrying his mother. I love her so much," he told
the guys.
"Who is it?" Brian asked.
"Um, how about you and the rest of the guys come out with
Hunter and his mom tonight," he offered.
"Okay, I'm free," AJ shrugged.
"I guess," Brian said as they went back over to the
other guys.
"Guys, we're going out with Nick and his fiance tonight,"
AJ announced.
"Fiance?" Kevin asked raising his eyebrows as he took
Hunter from Howie.
"Yep, my mommy!" Hunter said proudly.
"And who would that be?" Kevin asked in a baby voice.
"Its a surprise," he whispered loudly.
"Nick?" Joseph called, "Angie needs to do hair
and makeup." Nick nodded. "Watch Hunt for me,"
Nick said walking off.
"How old are you Hunter?" Brian asked.
"3," he said raising his fingers.
"So about 4 years ago," Brian said to himself.
"Can I go play on that boat?" Hunter asked. Kevin nodded
and he ran off. The photo shoot was on a little speed boat for
their new album.
"His mom is either Laney or Ali," Brian told the guys,
"I'm counting on it being Laney. Ali didn't even talk to
ME after she caught him cheating."
"Even thought I'd rather it be Ali, I'm thinking Laney too,"
Kevin commented.
"He wouldn't just marry Laney because of Hunter, would he?"
Howie asked
worried.
"He is Nick," AJ spoke up.
"Okay guys, we need to get this thing started," the
camera man called. They all headed to the boat Hunter was playing
on.
"Hunt, just stand by the camera man, I'll be over when I'm
done," Nick said gently taking him out of the boat. He quickly
ran to where the camera man was and Nick climbed inside the boat
with the other guys.
"Hey little guy, who're you?" the camera man asked.
"I'm Hunter, Nick's son," he smiled.
"I'm John, nice to meet ya," he shook his hand. He took
a few pictures then
nudged Hunter, "Get on in there," he smiled. Hunter
nodded and jumped in the boat.
"John said to get in here with you guys," he explained
to the guys. He sat in Nick's lap as they took more pictures.
Finally the shoot was over.
"So, we'll meet you at seven at Chez Pierre, okay?"
Brian asked.
"Chez Pierre at seven," Nick repeated as they left.
"I like your friends," Hunter commented on the way home.
"Well, they like you a lot too," he replied. They drove
up in the driveway to my house and saw both cars there. The new
one was a light gold BMW. The old one was my firebird from High
School.
"Honey, we're home!" Nick called cheesily as him and
Hunter walked in.
"What's this I heard about you and Turn?" I asked wanting
to hear both sides and walking in the kitchen where he and Hunter
were.
"I was only taking him to dance practice," he raised
his hands innocently.
"He said you yelled and hit him," I replied.
"No, I carried him and put him in the car and I talked sternly.
I didn't yell," he said hoping I'd believe the truth.
"Mom, he's not lying. Turn was being mean and wouldn't listen
to him. Nick was only trying to help," Kat said walking in.
I smiled apologetically at Nick.
"I'm sorry. I should've known he'd act that way," I
apologized.
"I'll only forgive you, if you, me and the kids go out with
the guys tonight," he replied pulling me towards him as Kat
and Hunter went to play a video
game.
"Kat is staying with a friend and Turn, well, he's not going
to want to," I replied.
"Ali, I know I'm not his father, but I will be soon and he
has to learn he can't have everything he wants," Nick told
me.
"I know that Nick, but not right now. We're all going to
have to adjust to this new situation. Its going to take time.
How about, just me and you go and I can have Mare baby-sit. It'll
look like we're playing favorites if we take Hunter," I explained.
"That's fine too. I didn't ell the guys its you who's Hunter's
mother, I just said it was a surprise," he smiled and kissed
me, "Did you know before you left me about Hunt?" he
asked sincerely.
"Actually, I was going to tell you that exact day, but then
I read that letter. I just didn't want to deal with you so I didn't
tell you," I explained. There
was an awkward silence, "We can talk later. I gotta get ready,"
I pulled away.
"Okay, I'll be back in a half-hour to get you, okay?"
he asked.
"Perfect," I showed him out. I put on a light pink long
dress, slashed at the
bottom, with spaghetti straps on. Left my hair down and topped
it off with 4 inch white shoes. In record time I was ready.
"Mom, don't marry him, please," Turn asked standing
in the doorway to my room.
"Turn, do you remember a certain boy calling him 4 years
ago and begging for him to come back because you missed him?"
I asked.
"That was when I was stupid," he replied sitting on
my bed, "I don't trust him."
"Turn, like it or not, I love him and I'm going to marry
him and he's going to be your father," I said calmly sitting
by him.
"Well, I don't like it," he replied as the doorbell
rang.
"I'm sorry, Mare's here, I'm going out for a while,"
I said getting up. He followed me downstairs to meet Nick. Mare
had already gotten there. Hunter had seen her coming and let her
in. Me and Nick headed for the restaurant, but not before Turn
said some snide remarks to him.
