Chapter Three

Nick unpacked and settled in the living room. He smiled as he saw his dad pull up with Angel and Leslie. Angel burst through the door. "Nick, you're back!"

"Nice to be back," Nick replied hugging her. He grinned. "You've grow up so much. You're turning into a beautiful young lady."

"Thanks."

Nick looked up. "Hey, Leslie. How are you?"

"I'm fine," she whispered sitting down.

"I really like your single, Les. You sound awesome."

"Thank you," she answered without emotion.

Nick noticed her distant mood. "So, I'm gald to finally see you again, Leslie."

"Likewise," she simply stated.

Her gazed at the dark circles beneath her eyes and her ghostly skin. "Are you okay?"

Leslie stood up and faced her dad who had just entered. "I don't think I'm feeling well. I need to go lie down."

Mr. Carter nodded. "Sure, sweetheart. Let me know if you feel worse."

"I will," she said in a sad tone.

Nick spoke up. "Maybe we could hang out when you feel better."

"Maybe," Leslie shrugged as she headed upstairs.

"Dad," he said, "has she been like this long?"

"Like what?" his father asked.

"So sad. She almost seems depressed."

Mr.Carter sat down. "Son, she's just starting her career. She's worn out that's all."
