Summer put the finishing touches to her make up then smiled back at her reflection in the mirror. A few months ago she was unhappy with how she looked and didn't make much of an effort. But she had gained confidence and with her amazing powder blue velour gown with delicate shoes to match it and her hair in long ringlets, Summer felt like a million dollars. Her headache had gone and she felt much better. Only, it looked like she was going alone.
She sighed, flicking on her CD player and putting on Quit Playin' Games. The song immediately made her smile; she posed elegantly in her dress for her BSB posters.
Summer put on a pearl necklace and matching earrings she had gotten for her seventeenth birthday back in June. She was ready now...
"Summer your date is here!".
"Huh?" Summer said outloud. What date?
She looked out of her window. Danny! He was standing at her door, a limo parked on the road. He was wearing a black tux, looking more handsome than ever.
Summer ran down the stairs, almost tripping on her shoes and gave Danny a hug. "I assumed you were going with Sapphire after what happened!" Summer exclaimed.
Danny lead Summer out to the limo. "Nope, I dumped her like I said I would! This very afternoon,".
Summer felt flattered that this guy liked her more than the most popular girl in town. She didn't care if Sapphire was upset by it, Summer didn't want to speak to Sapphire ever again. She was plain nasty!
As they drove to the dance, Danny told Summer about his day. As he was a couple of years older, he went to a local college just outside Ruskin.
"...Yeah, and I said 'kiss my ass!', He was such a loser!" Danny said, telling Summer about a guy he had argued with that day. "...And did I tell you? This sad geeky girl asked me to the dance, and I was like, 'no, I have a couple of beautiful babes fighting over me so get lost!', can you believe it?!".
Summer was getting annoyed. All Danny was doing was bragging about how cool he was and how he was better than everybody else.
The limo went around a corner and down a street. Summer recognised the name of the street. Nick lived down there, she had seem him emptying the mailbox in one of the front gardens one day. Nick... Summer couldn't help getting a funny feeling inside thinking about him. He was one of the sweetest guys she had met. He had so much in common with Summer, and he like her. She had just pushed him away... and now she realised how much she liked him.
"Stop the car!" Summer instructed the driver suddenly.
As the driver put the brakes on, Danny stopped mid sentence. "Summer what are you doing babe?".
Summer opened the car door. "What's it look like?!" she said sarcastically. "I'm getting out of the car! I'm not going to the dance with you Danny Joyce! You're so big-headed! You can have Sapphire, you suit each other!".
Danny stared at her, speechless.
Summer jumped out and slammed the door then ran down the street.
Shocked at what she had just done, Summer wandered further down the street, looking for Nick's house. A plan was forming in her mind. She could have a nice date for the dance still! And it was a guy she really liked...
