Chapter Three

Nick was dressed nicely in a tan suit with a cream color tie. He had to go out on stage with the guys after intermission to do 'All I Have To Give'.

The red light went off backstage and he knew they had to go on. The music started. Everything was going around in circles. Suddenly his part came, he had to start the song. He opened his mouth and tried to make a sound but nothing came out. He saw Brian rush over to him, Brian began to talk to him, he sounded like the teacher from Charlie Brown.

Nick couldn't respond to anyone. Paramedics began to rush over, but he didn't see anything else. The last thing he remembered was the floor rushing up behind him.

Nick opened his eyes. He couldn't tell where he was, Underneath his head was something soft. Slowly he got up and discovered it was moss. Large trees surrounded him. A little girl stood in front of him, she wore a pink body suit, a skirt that looked like Tinkerbell's, little pearl white ballet slippers and a pearl crown was set on her light blonde hair. She had dark emerald green eyes. She smiled. She looked no older than maybe 14 or 15 years old.

"My name is Lucy Fairlight. Here I am known as Princess Fairlight, but to you, you can just call me Lucy.". She bent over and helped him to stand. As she turned around he noticed she had wings, they were a mix color of silver and pink. "My mother, a servant and my older sister Emma Star, wish to see you.". She tugged on his arm and pulled him through the forest.

Nick looked around, little bits of light shone through the canopy of the treetops. When he returned to looking ahead of him he seen stone steps leading up to two thrones, made of moss and morning glories. A woman, he guessed a servant, was smiling warmly and crying. "Where am I?" he asked.

Brian leaned over top of Nick, "Nick buddy wake up.". He shook Nick's body slightly. Nick opened his eyes.

"Where am I?" he repeated.

Brian looked upset. "You're backstage at a Backstreet Boys concert, in Disney.". Brian pushed back some of Nick's hair.

Nick slowly sat up and looked around. Indeed the women, the man and the girls were gone. But he had a feeling that he would see them again. He tried to stand up, Brian pushed him back down. "No Nick sit down." He scolded. Nick gave him a look and tried again.

"Nick where are you going to go?" Kevin asked when Nick finally made it up.

"Home, I need to be alone." he began to undo his tie.

"Nick maybe that's not such a good idea, you just passed out, maybe one of us should stay at your house." Howie suggested.

Brian and Kevin nodded in agreement. AJ looked at Nick's face, "You look a little pale, you sure you're okay?". He walked towards him, Nick backed away, like he didn't know who he was. He had a frightened look in his eyes. AJ stopped and looked strangely at him. Nick's expression softened.

"Nick, what's wrong?" Brian asked softly putting a hand on his shoulder. Nick looked four years old at the most.

"I... I don't know. Brian will you come home with me?" he whispered shyly.

Brian nodded. "Let me call Leighanne, I don't want her to worry.". Brian dialed his cell and talked for a couple minutes, then hung up. "Okay lets go.".

Nick picked his keys up from the table, Brian noticed his hands were slightly shaking. He laughed nervously, "How about I drive. Yeah that's what I thought." He snatched the keys from Nick's grasp and jogged out the door.

Nick waved goodbye and followed Brian out to the vehicle.

Brian sat in the driver seat, he tried talking to Nick, but Nick just kept silent. "Nick, man what is up with you?" he tried one more time.

"I think I'm adopted or something." he whispered.

"Why would you say that? Aaron looks just like you." Brian pointed out.

"Not really, just the blonde hair, Leslie, Angel, and BJ, don't look anything like me. Something's up Brian, my mother never talks about when I was a baby, only when I was five and up, don't you think that's strange."

Brian shrugged. "Maybe she doesn't remember." he suggested.

"No, mothers always remember their baby's first step, or their first word, or even where they were born. But my mom, she only brings up where BJ, Leslie, Aaron and Angel stories. Never me." Nick noticed the little drops of rain starting to fall as they pulled into the driveway.

"Talk to her." Brian said as they ran into the house.

Nick nodded and paced himself into the dinning room where his mother was. "Mom?" he asked.

Jane jumped, and turned around a pleasant smile was on her face. "Hey honey." she walked towards him to hug him.

He backed away with tears in his eyes. "Tell me the truth..." he whispered.

Jane looked confused. "What?" she asked.

"Am I adopted?".

Jane let her arms fall lightly to he sides, then she began to fidget her fingers and chew on her lip. "Not exactly." she replied.

"What's that mean?" he asked, the tears slipping from his eyes.

"Well I found you on our front step when you were four, I don't know why you don't remember. But there you were a little ID bracelet with your name and birthday. Wrapped as tightly as possible in a light almost see through silver cloth.". She looked at his face.

"So... You're not my birth mother?" he said, more of a statement than a question.

"No, not really. But I raised you and loved you, and everything, making me your mother." she brushed her fingers against his cheek.

"I think I'm going to lay down.". He rushed past Brian and up the stairs to his room. Almost as soon as his head hit the pillow he was asleep.

Nick was laying in a pile of moss, yet again, only this time the little girl, Lucy Fairlight was not there to greet him. It was a woman. Tall and thin, long wavy blonde hair, big green eyes. She smiled. "Hello Nickolas" She whispered.

Nick stood up. " Hello Mother."
