Avery sighed as she went to sit at her lunch table. She knew what was going to happen when she did. As she set the orange tray onto the table she watched as everyone got up and left. Leaving her to eat by herself. She watched a few of the girls go over and talk to the new girl, who was pretty and popular.

Everything Avery wasn't. She sighed and twirled her plastic fork in her lunch. What was wrong with her? Her mother had said she was pretty. But then again her mother was dead. Leaving her to be raised by her sister. Lauren her sister was pretty and very popular and always loved to party. She checked in
on Avery from time to time but never really helped her win a boyfriend.

Avery was an eighteen year old senior. She had thick rimmed glasses and long stringy bleach blonde hair and light blue eyes. Her braces didn't exactly accent her features either. She was one of those people that the nerds didn't even hang out with. She hardly ever matched, take her outfit for that day, blue checkered flare pants (much like the blue ones in Christina Aguleria's new video Come On Over) and a pink floral sweat shirt. Her braces were coming off in a couple days and when she got enough money she was getting a total make over.

But until then, she was just plain old Avery Gabrielle Newcastle.

She took a peak over at the new girl and found her staring at her. But not like the other mean stares she got from the other girls, but a stare of sympathy and kindness. The new girl waved off her new friends and slowly made her way over.

Avery was shy so she tucked her hands into her lap and looked down at her meal. "Mind if I sit here?" She asked kindly.

"No not at all go ahead."

Avery watched as the girl set her leopard print purse onto the table and crossed her legs, which wore leopard print pants. She picked a piece of sandy blonde hair off her black tank top. " Hi, My name is Bobbie, Bobbie Carter. What is your name?"

She looked up into the girls chocolate brown eyes and saw her smile a row of white straight teeth. "Avery Newcastle" She whispered.

"Avery, I like that name."

Avery smiled. "Thank you."

"Mind if I..." Bobbie pointed to a small cookie.

"No go ahead I'm not really hungry."

Bobbie picked it up and munched on it lightly. "So Avery, why are you eating by yourself?" She asked as she popped the last bit of cookie in her mouth.

"Because nobody likes me, because I'm ugly."

Bobbie coughed. "What!" she exclaimed.

"What's wrong?" Avery asked wide-eyed.

"You just told me you're ugly. You are not ugly at all, I think your very pretty."

Avery blushed. "No not me. I'm not pretty."

Bobbie rolled her eyes sarcastically. "You are coming home with me today missy, I'll prove to you that your pretty and I don't want to offend you but if you want we can work on your outfits too."

Avery smiled. "Okay."

Bobbie stopped. "Call me BJ and do you need to call your mom to ask, I have my cell right here." BJ pulled out a silver phone.

Avery looked down ashamed. "No, my mother is dead."

BJ sat back down. "I know how you feel, my mother and father are dead too. My brother is raising me. Which to me, my sisters and my younger brother... it's a scary thought."

Avery laughed. "Meet me outside at 3:00, My brother is picking me and my sister up. Oh yeah and we have to stop at the middle school to pick up my other sister and my other brother."

"Okay" Avery smiled.

BJ waved and joined her friends by the hall.

Avery smiled and thought about her new friend. "Maybe this is the change I have been wanting." She whispered. Avery suddenly felt giddy. She picked up her tray and threw it away and quickly made her way to her Creative Writing class, eager to finish the day.
