“Ohmygosh! This is so much fun Brenda!!!” I giggle as we played Mario Kart at the Blockbuster display. “I know, Nicole! You’re pretty good!!” Brenda laughs. At that moment, we both look up because we hear some guys in the video games section. We just glance at the two hotties very briefly and then return to our game.
The guy with dark hair suggests to his blonde friend that they play Mario Kart. So, they race each other to the game and accidentally bump into Brenda and me! We turn around to be face to face with who had to be the most gorgeous guys on earth. The one with all the jewelry on profusely apologized while the other one clad in his baggy jeans, jersey, and Nike shoes muttered, “I’m sorry” while staring at the game.
The guy with the deep voice turned to us and held out his hand and said, “Hi! I’m AJ. What brings you two fly girls here to Blockbuster?” Brenda and I take his hand and start to introduce ourselves when the blonde guy interrupts and says, “Excuse me?! How much longer ‘til your game is over?” AJ looks shocked and hits his friend lightly on the arm and says, “Nick, there are more important things here than the game…” while he glances over at me and Brenda.
Nick agrees and says, “Um…sorry, I’m Nick. You two girls are…..” I smile and say, “I’m Nicole and this is my best friend Brenda.” Nick gives us a once over and continues watching us finish up our game of Mario Kart. Brenda beats me once again, so I give up. AJ tells me to come with him, so we walk around Blockbuster together while Nick takes my place with Brenda.
AJ puts his arm around my waist, taking me by surprise, since I had just met him! We walk down the aisles talking about all the movies we’ve seen and haven’t seen. About that time, this tall guy with almost black hair comes rushing into Blockbuster and exclaims, “Hey AJ! Man, we’ve gotta go!” AJ turns around in surprise and says, “Hey Kev! What’s up, man?” Kevin replies, “We’ve got a photo shoot in less than fifteen minutes! Where’s Nick?” I butt in and question, “Photo shoot?!” AJ looks at me with a worried expression on his face and mutters, “Oh…nuthin’, let’s go get Nick.”
We walk over toward Nick and Brenda and hear them laughing and talking. Nick says, “Wow! You’re pretty good….for a girl!” Brenda shoots back, “Yeah, I know…I’ve only beat you three times in a row!” Then Nick begins to whine and AJ and I walk up and AJ interrupts them, “Nicky, c’mon man, we’ve got to go.” Nick asked, “Aww…why? I’m having so much fun!” AJ answered, “Kev came in a sec ago and said that we’ve got a photo shoot in less than fifteen!” Nick grumbled, “Man! Why does Kevin always have to ruin everything?!”
AJ turned to me and told me that he had to leave and asked if he could have my phone number. Of course I gave it to him! I thought he would never ask!!! Nick got Brenda’s as well, then they kissed us goodbye on the cheek and rushed out of the store.
Brenda and I turned to each other as soon as they were gone and squealed! We talked about how sweet and cute each of them were and hoped that they would call. We drove back to my house since Brenda was spending the night with me.
I checked my e-mail and then Brenda started chatting a bit. I went into the kitchen to get some popcorn and soda and then the phone rang. I picked it up and said, “Hello?”
“Hi! Is Nicole around?”
“Uh-huh…this is her. Who is this?”
“Oh! Hey, babe! What’s up? This AJ.”
Ohmygoodness!!! It was AJ…he really called. I went into the den and told Brenda who was on the phone and she freaked! Okay, okay….calm down Nicole, it’s alright…..just breathe….
“Hey! Ya still there?” AJ wondered.
“Oh yeah…sorry! I was talking to Bren.”
“Oh. She’s over there?”
“Yep! Why?”
“Well, Nick has been trying to call her all night and she wasn’t home. I know where she’s at now.”
“Yeah…hold on…lemme tell Bren.”
I call into the den, “Hey Bren! Nick’s been tryin’ to call ya ALL night!” She starts to blush and then silently curses herself for not being home.
“Alright…I’m back. Sorry ‘bout that, AJ.”
“It’s alright sweet thang…don’t even worry about it.”
By this time my hands are all sweaty and I’ve been twisting my blonde hair around my fingers so tightly that my fingers are red. Brenda calls to me, “Hey! Guess what? I’m chattin’ with some guy named Gerald!” she laughs.
For conversation, I tell AJ what Brenda just told me.
He laughs and says, “Hey, hold on a sec, ok?”
I hear him ask Nick in the background, “Yo Nicky, what’s your screen name?”
“Gerald. Why?” Nick asks.
AJ returns to the phone laughing.
“What? What is it?” I ask.
“You’re not gonna believe this! Brenda is chatting with Nick!!!”
“You’re kidding?!”
“Nope.”
“Okay…hold on…lemme tell Bren.”
I call into the den again, “Hey Bren, guess who you’re really chatting with??? Nick!!!!!!”
She screams and starts to blush a little again. Then she suggests that we mess around with Nick a bit, so she tells me to ask AJ what Nick is wearing. Since Nick is wearing his favorite team’s jersey, Brenda types in, “Hey Nick!! I love your jersey! That is my fave team, too!”
AJ tells me that Nick is freaking out and is a bit scared. AJ, Brenda, and I are cracking up. Nick still doesn’t have a clue what’s going on….
AJ tells me to tell Brenda that Nick is eating Twix, so Brenda types in, “Mmm….those Twix look really good!” By now Nick is like really scared and has gone to shut the blinds and lock the doors.
AJ and I are like rolling on the floor laughing at him. We’re almost in tears! Brenda is cracking up as well. Nick starts to ask AJ what’s so funny, so AJ tells him that he’s talking with me on the phone and that Brenda is at my house and that’s who he is chatting with. Nick feels really embarrassed, but begs AJ to let him have the phone so he can talk with Bren.
AJ refuses because he’s talking to me, so Nick and Brenda chat a little longer on the computer. Finally, AJ offers to come pick Brenda and I up so that we can come back to their place to hang out for a bit. Of course I’m bursting inside and I exclaim, “Yes! We’d love to!”
I hang up with AJ and Brenda and I rush to go get ready really quick. We brush through our hair put on some lip gloss and change our clothes. I wear my fave GAP jeans and my v-neck black shirt with a shear, see-through white shirt over it. Brenda wears her fave pair of khakis with a spaghetti strap burgundy tank top. The doorbell rings and we take a quick glance in the mirror and then leave.
They arrive in Nick’s black Corvette Stingray and AJ holds the door for me while I climb into the back with him and Brenda and Nick sit in front. It takes about 10 minutes to get to their house and once we step in we see all these awards from MuchMusic, MTV, MTV Europe, Jive, and tons of others. We see the Backstreet Boys label everywhere and then it hits us…they ARE the Backstreet Boys!!!!
Nick and AJ leave the room to go get Howie and Brian. While they’re gone, Brenda and I are so in shock that we can’t say anything. The only thing we mutter is, “How did we not know it was them?” and “The photo shoot…of course! Why didn’t we think of it?” We chill out a bit as AJ, Nick, Brian, and Howie enter the room.
We’re still a bit nervous and they sense that, so Brian turns on the music. They offer us food and drink, so AJ goes to get me and Brenda some Sprites. Since the music is playing, Brenda and I decide to be brave and dance with the rest of them. After bustin’ a few moves, AJ and I decide to take a break and go play some pool. Howie decides that he wants to come watch us play.
AJ puts his strong, firm arms around my waist and then on top of my arm so that he can show me the correct stance for that particular shot. His cologne smells sooo good! I feel like I’m in heaven. Howie snaps me out of my trance however by saying, “Is it hot in here or is it the two of you?” AJ and I laugh a little, but mostly ignore him so he decides to go get Brian, since he looks pretty bored in there with Brenda and Nick, and they head to the kitchen to grab some cookies and milk.
Meanwhile, Brenda and Nick are heating up the living room! They’re slow dancing as close as you can get! AJ and I hear the music from the living room and he turns to me, takes my hand and whispers in his deep, soothing tone, “May I have this dance?” I’m melting by this time!!! I say yes, of course, and he takes my small hand into his and places it over his heart and I lean my head on his shoulder while he hums the tunes of the song into my ear. I gather the strength to pull myself gently from his firm hold and gaze deeply into his beautiful brown eyes. He then cups my chin gently in his strong hand and leans in to give me a soft, gentle kiss.
Nick and Brenda are still in the living room dancing cheek to cheek. Nick is softly brushing Brenda’s shoulder length, blondish brown hair with his fingers while softly singing into her ear. Like me, Brenda is completely melting into Nick’s strong embrace. Nick pulls Brenda closer and gives her a deep, passionate kiss like she’s never experienced before.
AJ and I are still dancing and he’s whispering sweet little nothings into my ear while holding me oh-so-tight and then I kiss his cheek very softly. His goatee rubs against my lips creating this sensation that tingles down my spine.
Brian and Howie are still chillin’ in the kitchen and find it very funny to crank up the music to scare us. It does!! We quickly pull away from our guys and find Brian and Howie in hysterics. We all feel sort of embarrassed and then Kevin comes running down the stairs in his Tommy boxers because the music woke him up. He tells us that we should go home and that everyone else should be going to bed because they all have another photo shoot in the morning. Until that moment, I had completely forgotten that I had just spent the most wonderful night of my life with Alexander James McLean of the Backstreet Boys. I still didn’t care though because I knew I loved him for who he was inside.
Kevin goes back to bed, Brian and Howie put up the cookies and milk and tell us goodnight. Unfortunately we knew our night of magic was quickly coming to an end. We all climbed into Nick’s Corvette again and sped down the road back to my house. Nick walked with Brenda to the door and AJ with me. AJ wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me to him and then leaned down and gave me a deep, overwhelming kiss. Nick gave Brenda a really big hug and kissed her several times and the lips and once on the cheek and told her that he loved her and sweet dreams. AJ and Nick walked back to the car and got in and waved goodbye to us and we blew kisses and watched them leave as the red taillights grew smaller and smaller.
