The next morning was dark and gloomy. "Yuck! I hate it when it’s like this." Lysa said, looking out the window. "Me too." Francesca agreed. "I don’t feel like getting dressed…I’m just gonna stay in my pj’s for a while." Lysa said, plopping down on her bed. "Me too." Francesca agreed. Lysa laughed, "Is that all you know how to say?" she asked. "Um…no…" Francesca said. "What is up with you? You’re normally a chatterbox." Lysa said, still laughing. "I’ve been thinking about this whole singing career thing. What if they become big and famous and forget all about us?" Francesca asked. Lysa became more serious as she thought about what might happen. "I never even thought of that…" Lysa said quietly, "But…I mean…all of us live all over the country, so at the end of the summer we’d have to say good bye anyway…" Lysa said. "Yea…but that doesn’t mean I want to have to." Francesca said, a tear rolling down her cheek. "Aww don’t cry Fran." Lysa said, going over to Francesca’s bed. She gave her a hug, "It’ll be ok…our friendship works…and it’s gonna work with them." she said, trying to comfort her friend. Lysa started turning the ring AJ had given her around her finger, "I hope it does anyway…" she whispered.
The rain started teeming down and the thunder felt like it was shaking the bunk house. Another thunder clap boomed. "What’s that thing? Something like you can tell how close the lightening is by how fast it comes after the thunder." Lysa said, when there was another loud boom. The bunk was illuminated by a flash of lightning. "Shit, if that’s true…the lightning is pretty close…and we’re surrounded by trees…that can’t be good." Francesca said, walking over to Lysa’s bed, and sitting down beside her. "I know…" Lysa said. There was another thunder clap and another bolt of lightning stuck. There was a loud bang at the door and both girls jumped. Lysa went over and opened the door enough to see out. AJ was standing out in the rain. "What are you doing out in the pouring rain?" Lysa asked, opening the door to let him in. "I came to see how you two were…I got worried." AJ said. "Well that was sweet." Lysa said with a smile. "I want you two to come back with me." AJ said. "Ok, we just have to get dressed…" Francesca said. "No pajama’s are fine. We’re all in ours. Just get your slickers." AJ said. The girls grabbed their jackets and umbrellas and went out with AJ, and headed across camp to the boys bunk house.
When they went inside the four other boys were sitting in a circle in the middle of the bunk house holding hands. "What are ya all doin?" Lysa asked, taking off her jacket. "A seance, we’re trying to communicate with the dead." Howie answered. "Freaky. But it sounds cool. Move over." Lysa said, sitting down beside him. AJ sat beside her and Francesca went over to Nick. Their seance was unsuccessful but they had fun trying. The still sat in the circle, and just talked. "Why didn’t Nick come with you?" Lysa whispered in AJ’s ear. "He was scared of the thunder and lightning." AJ answered. "Ohh." Lysa said, trying to hold back laughter. Her and AJ exchanged glances and both busted out laughing. "What’s so funny?" Howie asked. "Nick’s afraid of the storm." AJ said, loud enough so everyone could hear. "What is this? National pick on Nick year?" Nick asked. "Sorry Nick. I just seems funny. I mean…you don’t look like the type that would get scared over some thunder and lightning." Lysa said. "Yea…ok…I’ll forgive you guys…" Nick said, turning back to Francesca.
The rest of the summer flew by. "I can’t believe summer is over." Francesca said, as Nick held her in his arms, in the middle of the airport. "I know…I’m gonna miss you so much…I’ll call…" Nick said, pulling away to look at her. She smiled. "Remember you’ll always be my baby." Nick said, kissing her forehead. "And you’ll always be mine." Francesca replied. "Flight 228 to Seattle, Washington…" "That’s me." Francesca said. "Bye Nick, love ya." She said, walking away toward the gate. "Love you too." He called.
