Brian walked up behind Lis who was leaning against the bedroom doorway. "It's okay Lis." he whispered, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
"No it's not Rok. He has no memory of me, of us, of anything and I'm making him miserable!" Lis buried her head in Brian's shoulder and sobbed quietly.
Nick opened his eyes and looked at the doorway where he saw Brian and Lis. He watched as Bri tried to comfort her but she ran down the hall to her room, shutting it behind her. Nick sighed sadly and rolled over in bed, pretending to be asleep.
Brian walked into Nick's room and sat on the chair near the bed. "Frack man you up?" Bri whispered into the darkness.
"Yeah Bri, I'm here." Nick rolled over and saw his friend. "Is Lisa ok?"
"She's ok, yep."
Nick propped himself up on his elbows. "She didn't look ok just now. Should I go talk to her?" he asked concerned.
"No, I don't think that would be a very good idea."
Nick shook his head. "I hate this!"
"What?"
"Not remembering anything, especially Lis. Everytime she sees me I can tell I upset her."
Brian smiled weakly. "It's just hard on her, she was...is really in love with you."
Nick's eyes closed. "Can you tell me about her, us?"
"You and Lisa?"
"Yeah, how'd we meet?"
In spite of himself Brian laughed remembering the events around their meeting. "You...we...well you were driving..."
~Flashback~
"Ok, let's find a parking spot and get to the beach!" Nick said as he drove around the beach parking lot. They'd just wrapped up the 'Into The Millennium' tour three days ago and were finally home, so of course his first free day would be spent at the beach with his best friend.
"Anxious much?" Brian teased, laughing at his friend.
Nick rolled his eyes. "Just look for an empty spot Rok, keep the sarcasm down will ya?"
"Will do." Brian saluted his friend and looked out the window. "There right next to the white convertible!"
Lis sat in her convertible tapping her fingers on the steering wheel. Of course her sister would be late, she always was. It was a wonder the girl got anywhere, she thought to herself. "Might be here awhile" Lis said to herself and turned on the radio.
"Good spot Bri!" Nick said as he started backing in, suddenly the loud screech of metal against metal was heard and the Durango bounced forward abit.
"What was that?"
"Oh shit!" Nick looked out his window and saw he'd hit the white convertible.
Lis jumped out of her car, having been in there when the black Durango hit the corner. "What the hell?" she watched as the Durango pulled ahead then the drivers door opened and a tall blonde stepped out.
"I uh I'm really sorry." he stammered, looking at the damage to the old ford mustang.
"You should be! God how they give some people driver's licenses is beyond me." Lis said running a hand anxiously through her hair. "Let me guess, tourist?"
Nick sighed. "Look lady I'm sorry I didn't mean to..." he stopped and stared at the blonde a few feet away from him. Sun bleached blonde hair, honey tan, he could see the straps of her bikini sticking out under her overalls. "I'll uh I'll pay for all the damages."
Lis finally looked up at the guy who'd hit her. The second their eyes met she smiled. "No it's ok...I'll just get your insurance info..."
Hannah walked over. "Sorry I'm late, but I got stuck behind this lady with a stroller and three poodles who wouldn't..." she stopped. "Lis why are you just standing there?" she looked back and forth from the car to her sister. "OMG who hit the car?"
By now Brian had gotten out of the Durango and walked around to the back. He saw the way Nick was smiling at the girl in the overalls and shook his head. Leave it to Nick to charm a girl even when he practically destroyed the back end of her car. He looked over at the taller girl near theblonde. "Hi."
"Hi...did your friend hit my sister's pride and joy?"
"Yeah I'm sorry about that." Nick said, coming to his senses.
Han looked him over. "Wait a minute...I know you!!!"
Brian went red, afraid of being jumped by a hysterical fan. "And uh who would that be?"
"You two are in that group uh what's their name...The Street Boys or something?"
"Backstreet Boys." Nick answered. "I'm Nick Carter and this is Brian Littrell and you are?"
"Oh I'm Lisa Halliwell and this is my little sister Hannah."
"Nice to meet you two." Nick said smiling at Lis.
~End flashback~
"...So you invited Lis out to dinner that night and uh the rest is history."
"Where's her convertible?" Nick asked, not remembering seeing it in the garage.
"It's at her parents place in Jacksonville."
"So we've been together..."
"Almost two years...in fact uh..."
"What?"
"You proposed on Lisa's birthday two months ago."
Nick stared down the hallway to Lis' door. "We were engaged?"
"Yeah that's kinda why Lis is kinda finding this hard." Brian explained as his friend got out of bed. Nick didn't say anything as he left the room.
The sound of knocking on her door made Lis turn down her radio. "Yeah?"
"It's Nick, uh can I come in?"
"Sure, nothing stopping you." she answered as she wiped the remains of her tears away with the back of her hand.
The door swung open and Nick walked in. "Hi."
Lis looked at him in surprise, "You can come farther in than the doorway Nick." she said with a small smile.
He shut the door behind him and looked at her. "Guess you're wondering why I'm here."
"The thought did cross my mind."
"I was talking to Rok about you and me. Why didn't you say anything?"
"I didn't want to make you feel bad." Lis answered, unsure of what Brian had told him.
He sat beside her on the bed. "Lis, honey I feel bad about not remembering you...us..."
"It's ok Nick." she said softly.
He laid down beside her. "So this is our bed huh?" she nodded. "Which side was mine?"
"The side your on." She bit her lip to keep herself from crying.
"I made love to you here?" he whispered in the dark.
"Yeah." Lisa answered quietly, deep inside she knew that was something that would never happen again.
In the dark Nick watched her, something deep inside of him, a part he didn't understand or remember ached to have her in his arms and comfort her. "Maybe I should go."
"No...Nicky please stay." she pleaded. "I...I need you."
His eyes gazed into hers. "You need your Nick, Lis and I'm not him." he said sadly, knowing he might never be again. "You keep looking for him but he's not here."
Lisa sighed. "Why did you come in here?"
"To see you."
"Why?" she questioned.
"That I don't know." he said honestly.
Lis laid there in silence for a few minutes looking Nick over, seeing him look around the room then finally back down at her. "Do you want me?" Nick broke the look they shared. "Do you?" she repeated.
"Yes." he said softly.
"I want you too." she leaned over and kissed him slowly.
