Shattered-Chapter 7

By: Lisa Marie

Nick watched from the doorway as Brian hugged Lis tightly. A part deep inside of him felt a pang of jealousy but he smiled. Maybe pushing Lis away in another direction wouldn't be so bad after all. Brian seemed to care for her an awful lot and he was a good guy, he'd never hurt her. With a small smile on his face Nick quickly moved away before the twosome saw him watching.

~An hour or so later~

Brian walked down the beach making sure to give Nick his space. He knew Nick usually spent his time at the beach thinking and he'd need to do that now more then ever. He glanced over at Nick was was sitting down his eyes on the ocean.

Nick let the sand fall through his fingers as he sat there thinking. He didn't want to hurt anyone but it wasn't fair for others to put their lives on hold just for him, especially since there wasn't any guarantee he'd get his memory back. All he needed now was a way to prove to everyone he'd begun to move on with his life.

Lis sat behind the wheel of her rental car. She was nearing Jacksonville, only another few minutes and she'd be within the city limits. She smiled and flicked the dial on the radio, the silence in the car beginning to unnerve her. Soon she was in Jacksonville, heading to her parents house. One thing was for certain, after the way Nick had acted towards her that morning he didn't want her around.

Hannah sat on the air plane heading back to Tampa. She'd been in Los Angeles for a few weeks visiting her best friend from high school, helping her find an apartment and get settled there. She leaned back in her seat and realized no one knew she was coming in. Han looked around and waved a flight attendant over, asking for a phone.

Lis pulled the rental car into her parents driveway and stepped out. They wouldn't be home, they were on a trip out to Texas to visit her aunt and uncle. Peace and quiet, she thought with a smile as she let herself in the house she had grown up in. After a few minutes of walking around she realized she needed to call Rok.

Nick ran inside through the garage door and picked up the phone. "Yeah?" he answered out of breath.

"Ok Nick, breathe." Han said with a small laugh.

He made a face. "Who is this?"

"Han, Lisa's sister. Jeez, nice way to answer the phone. Look is Lis or Bri around?"

Nick sat down at the table. "Rok's in the garage and Lis drove up to Jacksonville to get her car."

Han made a face into the phone. Lis had told her she'd wait till she got home to do that. They'd make a weekend of it, a girls' weekend away she had called it. "When did she leave?"

"Sometime this morning. Why?"

"I'm flying in this afternoon and I need someone to pick me up."

Brian pulled out his ringing cell phone from his back pocket. "Hello?"

"Hey Bri, I made it to Jacksonville in one piece."

"Lis! Good, I was starting to worry."

"Why? I made good time, and yes I stopped to eat on the way."

Brian laughed. "Look I'm just looking out for you ok?"

"Yeah I know. How was the beach?" she asked, sitting down on her bed.

He walked into the backyard and sat on the bench. "You mean how's Nick doing?"

There was silence from her end of the phone. "Yeah..."

"He's still the same. Lisa, what went on last night? I mean you two are acting strange, you never mentioned anything about the car..."

She sighed into the phone. "Look can we please not talk about last night right now Brian?"

He knew he was pushing. "All right. I'll drop the subject. So when I can expect you back?"

"A few days, Han's not due back for another few days. I'll try to get back before she gets home."

Rok nodded and saw Nick motioning for him to come inside from the window. "K Nick's calling me but you need anything you know who to call?"

"Ghostbusters!" Lis said with a laugh.

"Yeah yeah. I'll call you later." He clicked the phone off and went inside.
