I brushed my hair for the hundredth time and slipped on my short black dress and tall black sandals.
Brooke applied the last of her makeup then pulled on her purple spaghetti-strapped dress with a small slit above the left knee.
“Are you ready?” I asked her.
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” she said, glowing with excitement.
“Hey, do you still have AJ’s picture in your wallet from when we went to their concert?”
“Of course,” she said. “I never go anywhere without it.” She smiled sweetly.
We strutted down the hallway, approaching the elegant staircase leading to the lobby.
“Hey, wait. My sandal came unbuckled. I’ll be down in a sec.”
“Ok,” said Brooke.
I watched Brooke as she gracefully made her way toward AJ.
“Whoa,” was all he could say. His mouth was wide, but I couldn’t see his true expression because his dark brown eyes were covered by his brown leather cowboy hat. He also sported a brown leather jacket, unbuttoned, with a black wife-beater underneath, and black pants. He handed her a dark red rose and kissed her on the cheek.
“Thank you,” I heard her say.
“I hate to break up this Kodak moment,” said Nick, “but where’s my girl?”
As he spoke I approached the top of the staircase.
I slowly walked toward my dream date, feeling just like Cinderella meeting Prince Charming for the first time. Our eyes locked and I finally reached Nick. “Hey, beautiful,” he said, handing me a red rose, then kissed me sweetly on the cheek.
“Well, guys, if this is gonna take all night, Kev, Howie, and I can go do our own thing,” said Brian, a little ancy from the romantic atmosphere.
“No, no, no,” I said. “We’re okay. It’s over.” I smiled at Nick and he winked at me.
