“Miss?” the veterinarian called to me as I sat in the waiting room.
“Yes? How is he?” I said, practically leaping out of my chair, heading in his direction.
“Your puppy is going to be fine,” he smiled, handing me the small puppy that had a bandage around his left front leg.
“Thank you, but he’s um…not exactly my puppy,” I said, as the Houston licked my hand.
“Well, he seems to like you,” the doctor smiled.
“Yes, but um…” I stammered.
“If you don’t want him, we can put him in the pound and if no one claims him, he’ll be put to sleep,” the doctor said, a look of worry and sorrow in his old eyes.
“You know what? I’ve always wanted a puppy,” I smiled, turning to leave the veterinarian hospital.
“Now what am I gonna do with you, huh?” I said aloud to Houston, shaking his cute little face. “You obviously belong to someone, but who…??”
I climbed into my car and drove to the store so I could buy some dog food and things for Houston.
After that, I went home to finally eat my very cold food from MickeyD’s. I flipped through the channels on the television while Houston slept beside me on the couch.
“Oh, my back hurts,” I exclaimed, standing up and stretching. I walked outside onto my deck, in my pajamas to get a breath of fresh air. I loved to go sit on my deck and just listen to the roar of the ocean. I lived in a house, alone, by a small, reserved beach in Florida. Oh look, they must have finally sold that house across the street. The house was more or less across from my backyard, but it was basically the only house around me. I liked having my privacy, but it would be nice to have some neighbors, too. I was just about to sit down and relax when I heard someone yell from across the street.
“I won!!! Yeaaah!” a loud voice yelled.
“Oh great, loud neighbors…” I complained to myself, and leaned over the edge of my deck to see what was going on.
It was very dark out, so I couldn’t see much, but it looked like a couple of guys out playing basketball. Hmm…guys…
I watched the guys play and listened to them yell out for a bit longer and then decided to go in and get some sleep.
