Touch of Fate-Chapter 5

By: Panda Angel

I woke up early the next morning after tossing and turning the entire night. I just couldn’t seem to get Nick out of my mind. Why was I stressing about this whole girlfriend thing so much?? I went in the kitched to fix my breakfast when the phone rang.
“Hello?” I answered sweetly.
“Hi, McKenzie. I need you here in 15,” I heard my boss say over the phone.
“What? Why?” I questioned, still a bit sleepy.
“Just come down here, puleeze,” my boss begged.
“Alright, be there in a few,” I said, slamming the phone down.
I hobbled into my room and threw on some clothes.
I applied a light layer of foundation and lip-gloss and headed out the door. I was driving down the road when I saw Nick getting into his car as well. He saw me and motioned for me to slow down.
“Hey Kelly!” he yelled, walking closer to my car.
“Hi Nick! I’d love to stay and chat, but I’ve got to be somewhere right now,” I said curtly.
“Yeah, I know, think you could give me a ride?” he asked.
“What are you talking about?” I shot him a quizzical look, turning down my stereo.
“I’ll explain on the way…” he said, climbing into the passenger side of my car.
“Buckle up!” I told him as I pressed the gas petal to the floor.
“Whoa! Nice ride ya got here…” he complimented, looking the car over.
“Thanks, so how’d ya know where I was going?” I questioned, extremely curious.
“Well, my girlfriend works at the photo place and I told her about you. She said that she would set up something with your boss. So, hopefully you’ll get to help her out with our photo shoot today!” he grinned, obviously proud of himself.
“Wow! Thanks, I guess. Can’t wait to get to work with your girlfriend…” I trailed off.
“Oh, you’ll love her! She’s the best!” he grinned, very hyper and bubbly.
“I bet,” I commented, turning up the music.
Nick and I didn’t talk for the rest of the trip there. We finally arrived and my boss and a very pretty brunette were standing outside waiting for us.
“McKenzie! Glad ya made it!” my boss yelled.
“Yeah!” I said, adjusting the rings on my fingers.
“I want you to meet Hunter,” he gestured to the tall, skinny girl standing beside me, whom Nick was now wrapped around.
“Hi!” I halfway smiled. “I’m Kelly McKenzie. Great to be working with you!”
“Same here!” she smiled back as her and Nick lip-locked.
Yuck! Couldn’t they at least wait until I wasn’t around to do that?
Eventually we all went in and I helped Hunter set up some things before the rest of the Backstreet Boys arrived.
“Yo Frack!” a male voice called. I turned around and saw Brian Littrell standing before me.
“’Sup Frick?” Nick called back. Following Brian, the rest of the guys came in.
“Hey Hunter! Wuzzup babe?” AJ’s deep voice yelled, as he waltzed in, wearing sunglasses, baggy carpenter jeans and a black wife beater.
Hunter laughed quietly and told all of the guys where to go. I just stood by and watched the first few pictures in amazement.
“Hey, who’s that girl? She’s pretty fine!!!” I overheard one of them say. I looked up and noticed them all staring at me.
I smiled shyly as Hunter noticed their distraction.
“Hello?? The camera is over here! Not over there!” she shot me a look as if to say, back off.
“Excuse me? Hunter is it?” I interrupted walking over to her.
“Yeah, it’s Hunter. What do you want?” she said rudely.
“What is your problem?” I asked.
“You!” she said bluntly. “You are in the way and are distracting the guys. Time is money, honey. So back off.”
“Fine, just thought I’d tell ya that none of your pictures are going to turn out because you forgot to load the film,” I said, turning to walk off.
The guys had obviously heard the whole think because they started laughing at her.
“Yo, yo Kel…wait up, babe!” AJ’s loud voice boomed behind me.
“Yes??” I spun around to face him.
He looked deep into my eyes with his own gorgeous brown ones. Wow! He looked even better in person.
“That was pretty cool what you did to Hunter. She is such a snob. We all hate her. We know she’s only using Nick for his money, but ya know, what can ya tell him? He won’t listen….” AJ informed me.
“Yeah, well…it’s his life, I guess,” I said back.
“You’re right. Well, hey, enough about Nick. Tell me about you,” he said, placing his arm around my waist. That made me feel a tiny bit uncomfortable…I mean, I just met the guy!
“Actually, AJ, I need to go. Nice meeting you!” I called, sliding into the driver’s seat of my car.
“Whoa! This is your car?” he questioned, walking over.
“Yes it is. Now if you’ll excuse me…” I started the engine.
“Kelly, could I have your number? I’d like to call you later,” he asked.
“Yeah, sure,” I said, writing it down on a piece of paper.
“Thanks babe. Catch ya later!” he smiled, as I sped down the road.
