Heart's Desire-Chapter 10

By: Panda Angel

“Nick, don’t row so fast! The boat’s going to tip over!” Kelly shrieked, grasping the sides of the canoe for dear life. Nick laughed, but did as his wife requested.
Being the playful person he is, Nick leaned over and splashed his wife with the frigid mountain water. Kelly screamed in surprise as the icy droplets rolled down her smooth cheeks. Kelly leaned over and splashed Nick back. In no time, both of them were screaming delightfully and splashing each other, oblivious to the rocking of the canoe. With one last splash for each of them, the canoe tipped dangerously to the right, and came crashing to the water, dumping both of its occupants into the freezing lake. Nick and Kelly both yelled, then went under water briefly. Both of them burst out of the water, slinging water everywhere, and gasping for air.
The couple eventually swam to the shore and climbed out of the lake. Their drenched clothes were clung tightly around their bodies. Long strands of Kelly’s hair, now darkened by the water, were wrapped around her neck and across her face. Nick’s much shorter and slightly darker hair was matted along his forehead. The two of them shoved their hair away from their faces and as if by some unspoken mutual agreement, the couple started to build a fire.
Kelly sat in front of her husband and he lovingly draped his arms around her shoulds, so her head was pressed tightly against his chest. Nick was holding a red and black checkered blanket that was wrapped around both of them to keep them warm as they dried in front of the fire.
“Nick, look,” Kelly said notioning toward the sky.
The sunset was approaching, but the picture at that moment was priceless. The majestic mountains stood high and mighty beyond the crystal lake. The fiery red, yellow, pink, and orange hues of the sky clashed creating a brilliant multi-colored rainbow across the vast sky.
“Isn’t that beautiful?” Kelly asked aloud, amazed and in awe at the beauty of the scenery surrounding her.
Nick once again smiled at his wife’s fascination over the simplest things and replied to her question, "Yeah, but not nearly as beautiful as you.”
Kelly smiled genuinely and reached her arm behind Nick’s neck and pulled his head closer to her, so that her long eyelashes gently brushed against his soft cheeks.
“I love you so so much,” Kelly stated, her heart bursting with love, and beating ferverently.
“I love you, too baby,” Nick replied, kissing her sweetly with his luscious, warm lips.
