“Drive safely and have fun! Call me when you get back home, ok?” Ang’s concerned voice echoed through the phone receiver.
“Okay, I will. I’ve gotta go. Nick’s beeping the horn!” Kelly laughed.
“Alright, be careful! Bye!”
“Take care! Bye!” Kelly hung up the phone, locked the door, and headed outside.
“Do we have all of our bags, hon?” Nick asked as the couple backed out of their driveway.
“Yeah, you sure you want to fly? We can drive if you want,” Kelly suggested knowing how much her husband hated planes.
“I’m sure. It will take us forever just to drive up there and we only have the weekend,” Nick stated as they drove to the airport.
“Please fasten your seatbelts. We will be departing momentarily,” the pilot’s voice boomed over the intercom of their flight.
Nick and Kelly, along with everyone else on the plane, fastened their seatbelts. Nick took a deep breath and when he felt the plane jolt as they ran down the runaway, he groped for his wife’s hand and squeezed it tightly. The flight went smoothly and the couple arrived safely in the beautiful state of North Carolina.
“It’s been a while since we’ve been up here together,” Kelly commented as the couple drove into the driveway of their log cabin.
“Yeah, it has. We came up here, what? Two years ago?” Nick asked trying to recall.
“I think so. C’mon, let’s take our luggage inside and we’ll cook dinner. I’m starving!” Kelly climbed out of their rented utility vehicle and carried some luggage to the door.
The view was beautiful from the deck of the cabin. The huge, shimmery lake reflected the towering mountains and tall pine trees surrounding the quaint log cabin.
Nick walked up and unlocked the door to the cabin. A musty smell filled their noses, as they entered the closed up cabin. Kelly walked around opening the windows to let in some of the fresh mountain air.
The cabin was small, but just perfect for a married couple. There was a living room with a fireplace and a bathroom, and kitchen downstairs. A staircase in the living room led upstairs to the open bedroom. There was a whirlpool in one section of the bedroom with skylights cut out of the ceiling.
Kelly unpacked their clothes and accessories while Nick cooked their dinner. It was nearly nighttime outside, so their first day of vacation was practically over.
